Job Advert: Consultant Psychiatrist - Eating Disorders
Location: Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent
Salary: £185,000 per annum
Sanctuary Personnel is collaborating with a multi-award winning and world-leading healthcare group renowned for its commitment to clinical excellence. We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Consultant Psychiatrist with expertise in Eating Disorders to join their dynamic team.
Job Summary: As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will play a crucial role in the medical oversight of an allocated number of patients within our specialised Eating Disorders program. Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, you will actively participate in weekly MDT meetings, contributing to key decisions regarding patient care and treatment.
Key Accountabilities: Clinical: - Liaise with referrers, community teams, and commissioners.
- Assess and manage risk, developing comprehensive management plans for medical and psychiatric risks.
- Formulate initial care plans and conduct mental state examinations upon admission.
- Develop individual formulations for each patient in collaboration with the team.
- Review patient blood test results in accordance with refeeding blood test protocols.
- Collaborate on the assessment, treatment, and monitoring of psychiatric aspects of eating disorders and co-morbid disorders.
- Assume lead responsibility for the physical health of patients, arranging investigations and referrals as needed.
- Contribute to generating discharge summaries within agreed timescales.
Support
- Arrange annual leave cover with colleagues.
- Contribute to educational programs for student placements and in-house staff.
- Participate in in-house teaching, training events, audit, service evaluation, and research.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legal considerations and eating disorders treatment.
- Participate in both statutory and organizational appraisal and the revalidation process.
- Attend consultants' meetings and other committees as appropriate.
Administrative
- Prepare for the weekly MDT meeting.
- Assess, review, and document patients’ capacity to make decisions about treatment.
- Complete necessary documentation, including blood request forms, CPA reports, and reports for inspections.
Applicant Qualifications:
- Specialist registration with the General Medical Council and a license to practice
- MRCPsych or equivalent
- Approved Clinician status or willingness to achieve this
- Registration for CPD with the Royal College of Psychiatrists
Applicant Experience:
- Minimum of one years’ experience of eating disorders as a higher trainee or equivalent
- Experience of a variety of psychotherapeutic approaches used in the treatment of eating disorders
- Experience of the management of refeeding in severely underweight patients
