Axcis education are looking for a higher-level teaching assistant (HLTA) to work with children who are working at age related expectations (or close to), and are diagnosed with autism (ASD), anxiety, speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) in an alternative school in the Newton Abbot area. Experience of working with children with autism (ASD) and/or speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) is desirable but not essential. This is a full-time role, working Monday to Friday (8.45-15.30 and an early finish on a Friday).
The new purpose-built school provides alternative education for children who are diagnosed as autistic (ASD) or (SLCN) in Year 3 up to post 16. The school includes a soft playroom, an immersion room, a library and specialist rooms for Art, Food Technology, Science and Outdoor Learning. The school’s mission is to prepare children for the world by enabling them to acquire new knowledge and skills required to engage within the world around us. To achieve this, the school delivers the national curriculum through their individualised PIECES curriculum, which is adapted to allow access for children at all ages and who have autism (ASD) and/or (SLCN). Learning out of the classroom (LOTC) is an essential part of the school’s curriculum. The children are taught to appreciate, respect and care for the natural environment through forest school skill acquisition, animal care, horticulture and play. The school is quickly settling into the local community, becoming an asset to its local area. Your role as a higher-level teaching assistant (HLTA) will involve building and establishing excellent relationships with autistic (ASD) children and children with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN). You must have a positive and an unwavering attitude, demonstrating a willingness to make a real difference to the school. You will be motivated to support children with autism (ASD) and/or speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) and show you are determined to learn and implement new strategies to support the pupils you are working with. The successful candidate will also show an enthusiasm to establish themselves within the school, offering to support the school with day-to-day activities. Axcis pay weekly – every Friday. Your pay rate will be in the region of £90-£110 a day, depending on previous experience.Job tags
