Consultant Rheumatologist
10 PA's
Permanent post

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Rheumatologist to join our high-performing and dedicated team on a full or part-time basis with flexible job plan arrangements and possible flexible working conditions.

The main duties of the role will be providing personalised care for patients in an outpatient setting, responding to GP advice and guidance requests, triaging new referrals and providing ward consultations to inpatients. You will also contribute significantly to multidisciplinary teams whilst receiving support for your own specialist development. There are also opportunities to be closely involved with education and training of junior doctors and allied health professionals and research with the department that is closely linked with the University of Manchester.

The role is within Tameside & Glossop Integrated Care Foundation Trust, working from the Tameside Hospital site located to the east of Manchester at the border of the stunning Peak District.
• Providing high-quality, personalised care for patients, mainly through an outpatient setting but also through inpatient ward referrals.
• Triaging new referrals to the service and responding in a timely manner to advice and guidance requests from GPs.
• Significant contribution to multidisciplinary teams.
• Providing clinical supervision and leadership to all members of the speciality team.

• The post holder is expected to work alongside the existing Rheumatology Consultants.
• The post holder will be encouraged to develop a special interest to fit in with the future development of the department.
• To provide timely advice for inpatient referrals from other colleagues within the Trust as requested.
• To provide out-patient services including both new and follow-up Rheumatology patients and advice and guidance requests as per agreed job plan.
• Developing existing clinical protocols and pathways to maximise the efficiency and effectiveness of diagnosis, treatment and discharge.
• To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing support and clinical supervision to other members of that team.
• Organising training and development opportunities in Rheumatology for medical, nursing, therapy and other staff associated with the Rheumatology Department.
• Promoting effective communication within the department and with the wider hospital by regular liaison with specialist medical and service departments within the hospital.
• Investigating and implementing new ways of managing Rheumatology related admissions.
• Take part in the professional supervision and development of all the junior doctors within the Rheumatology including appraisal and personal development planning.
• Demonstrate commitment to, and participation in, Clinical Governance, Risk Management and Clinical Audit.
• The post holder will participate in the day to day running of the division.
• The post holder will be expected to contribute to a fully clinically integrated service across the division.
• There is no on-call requirement for the post.
