Job description
What you will do in your working day
- Communicate effectively and sensitively with students to support their learning, encouraging independence.
- Support students with their written and oral communication.
- Read to students or listen to students read as appropriate.
- Ensure students are focussed and on task.
- Promote and support the inclusion of all students in the learning activities in which they are involved.
- To assist with the supervision of, and encourage good behaviour amongst all students.
- To work with individuals or small groups under the supervision of the teacher which may be carried out in the classroom or outside the main teaching area.
- Ensure that equal opportunities, bullying or harassment issues are dealt with appropriately as they arise in conjunction with the teacher/teaching assistant team.
- Provide feedback to students and the teacher.
- Attend and participate in relevant meetings as required.
- Log any concerns about student behaviour and/or their learning with the relevant teacher and on CPOMS.
- Supervise students off site on school trips and other external visits as required
- To support the individual needs of students in the resource, acknowledging the need for personalisation of learning.
- To be part of the Plan Do Review cycle to have input into Students’ Support and Adjustment Plans (SAPs.)
- Have high expectations of all students encouraging them to live our school motto – ‘Personal Excellence and Collective Responsibility’.
- Respect students’ social, cultural, linguistic, religious and ethnic backgrounds.
- Build and maintain successful relationships with students, treating them consistently, with respect and consideration and to be concerned for their development as learners.
- Demonstrate and promote the same positive values, attitudes and behaviour that are expected from students.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to meet the needs of all students (inc SEN students).
- Carry out all aspects of the role effectively and to seek help, advice or guidance as necessary.
The training you will be getting
During this teaching assistant apprenticeship you will promote self-belief, social inclusion and high self-esteem which will play an integral part to pupils’ wellbeing. You will become an essential part in the learning environment for the classroom teacher and pupils. Working to ensure pupils thrive in a positive, nurturing and safe environment.
It is an active role supporting the learner to access the curriculum and expand their knowledge. TAs play a crucial role in supporting teachers and pupils. Your work can have a significant impact on the children's learning experiences, helping them to succeed academically and personally.
- Milestone 1. Keeping children safe in Education – (KCSIE Policy, child protection, safeguarding awareness, serious case reviews, health, safety and wellbeing legislation)
- Milestone 2. Professional Standards and Personal Accountability – (Relationships and Role Modelling, CPD and Personal development)
- Milestone 3. Child Development and Behaviours – (Child Development Practitioners, stages of development, Behaviour Management).
- Milestone 4. Curriculum and Technology – (School ICT Systems, using technology, National Curriculum key Stages)
- Milestone 5. Learning and Assessment Strategies – (Assessment procedures, feedback techniques, SEND Strategies and partnership working)
- Milestone 6. Prep for End Point Assessment
- You will gain a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.
What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship
Staff Development:
- To take part in the school’s staff development programme by participating in arrangements for further training and professional development.
- To continue personal development in the relevant areas.
- To engage actively in the Performance Management Review process.
- To work as a member of a designated team and to contribute positively to effective working relations within the school.
Once qualified you could progress onto a higher qualification or potentially be offered a permanent position depending on availability and performance.
