Job description

The in-patient unit is a 15 bedded facility. Patients are admitted to our In-patient Unit for complex symptom management and end-of-life care, we are able to offer the highest standard of care by ensuring nursing staff have a maximum of 5 patients to manage during their shift. We work closely with the hospice community specialist nurses, supportive care, specialist therapy and medical teams, to ensure we provide holistic individualised care to patients and their families. Not forgetting the close working relationship we have with the wider hospice teams. The in-patient unit (IPU) team comprises of Registered General Nurses, Nurse Associates and Health Care Assistants. We are also proud to be introducing new roles into the team such as an Environmental Assistant to help the ward run smoothly, and this team Clinical Practice/Skills, as learning and development for all our staff is a priority, as well as secondment and development opportunities across other hospice clinical services. In addition, the IPU team are supporting the Virtual Ward team out of hours, which is a new initiative to allow patients to get the care they need in the place they call home, rather than being in hospital or the hospice. The main responsibilities include: Education, training and assessment Clinical support Quality improvement initiatives Data analysis and reporting Developing strategy Clinical mentorship Evidence-based practice Interdisciplinary collaboration Compliance and regulatory standards Patient and family engagement
