The opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our newly established Active Young People team within Cardiff Met Sport. The team has been created to complement the wider work of the Physical Activity and Health team, in particular adopting a systems-based approach to engage young people in physical activity participation.

The School Sport Officer will work across the Southern Arc of Cardiff to support the Health and Wellbeing Area of Learning Experience (AoLE). They will work with a wide range of stakeholders and partners across the sport and education sector to build relationships and co-design activities to maximise engagement of schools in physical activity. You will be experienced in community & school engagement with a proven track record of enabling change and delivering sport or physical activity interventions to positively influence behaviour change.

Key duties will include:

Plan and deliver opportunities for primary, secondary and special schools to participate in physical activity interventions especially those from the Southern Arc who face the greatest barriers to participate.
Integrate Open Campus placement students and projects into the school’s programme and relevant interventions.
Utilise research and insights from teachers and pupils to create a programme of delivery that will support the Health and Wellbeing AoLE.
To develop a programme of CPD opportunities for teachers and young people to support the Health and Wellbeing AoLE and promote sustainability by upskilling teachers.
Assist the AYP Pathway Manager in developing partnership opportunities with NGB’s, professional and voluntary clubs and organisations to enhance the schools offer.
To carry out any other duties as appropriate in line with the grade of the role that may be requested by the AYP Pathway Manager
Act as a brand champion for the university by living our values and behaviours, and ensuring our work and approach is consistent with our values and best practice.

What we are looking for

Knowledge of the Health and Wellbeing AoLE
Experience of developing community or school interventions to positively impact behaviour change
Experience of delivering inclusive provision and opportunities
Experience of developing and improving relationships with stakeholders and partners.
Experience of co-designing activities and programmes to increase engagement.
Have a high level of customer service experience, with the ability to respond to requests in an appropriate and timely manner.
Excellent time management skills to achieve a programme of complementary projects.
Ability to identify gaps in provision and work innovatively to create new and sustainable programmes.
Ability to work with internal and external stakeholders to create sustainable projects for the benefit of the local community.
Be able to develop and evaluate projects and from that learning, make improvements.
Ability to take responsibility and implement the health and safety policy & process.
Be able to write risk assessments in line with health and safety requirements.
Ability to work as part of a team, meet agreed deadlines and work on own initiative.
High level of communication skills to develop effective relationships.
Innovative problem-solving skills
Ability to keep calm under pressure and manage a range of conflicting deadlines.
Ability to interact with people of all ages.
Ability to embrace change positively and actively seek out new and improved ways of doing things.
