Business Intelligence Developer
- A full-time and permanent role joining a growing developer team
- Open to candidates' location as the role can be based remotely but must be flexible to travel to our Support Centre in Kearsley (M26 1GG) during the induction period and as and when required for business needs
- Salary up to £47k depending on experience plus annual bonus opportunities
The Role
Business Intelligence Developers are responsible for managing the companys data layers used for output reporting, and for creating output reporting for consumption by the wider business (in both SSRS and Power BI). BI Developers must be able to engage with the business users to create reports that meet their requirements and be able to coach less-experienced business users on creating reports in Power BI according to the companys Power BI Framework.
Give sound customer service on all queries, escalating issues where relevant to the wider BI Team for resolution and implementing process improvements from learnings.
Take responsibility for own personal development to upskill and support the wider BI Team with the development of reports and the business strategy for reporting improvements.
Key Accountabilities
- Produce accurate and timely reporting solutions for business users according to their requirements
- Support business users in creating their reporting content according to the Power BI Framework including, where appropriate, creating datasets or data flows for consumption by the wider users
- Work with data modelers to ensure that all reports and KPIs are consistent with the business definitions, and avoid duplication, incongruencies, and unnecessary load on the data warehouse and Power BI Service
- Provide accurate and timely resolutions to incidents raised by business users about management information solutions provided by the BI Team
- Run routines required to build the data warehouse
- Proactively engage with business users to understand any incidents raised
- Work with the other members of the BI Team for guidance, direction, and support (as required)
- Provide support to the end users of our data warehouse to ensure queries are resolved within SLAs
- Continuously review our processes to ensure we are efficient and effective in answering support queries
- Ensure all processes within the team are documented
- Follow existing processes when answering support queries, running data warehouse build routines, or making changes to existing solutions.
- Active involvement in close working relationships with other business areas, especially about acquiring data/files to load into the data warehouse or providing information from the data warehouse
Sounds great what do I need?
- Minimum of two years experience of working with and supporting data warehouses (if not then three years background in management information is essential)
- SQL Server skills essential (being able to read, write, and understand often complex SQL stored procedures)
- Problem-solving skills in SQL Server, SSRS, and Power BI to resolve queries related to existing solutions
- Confident in making changes to SQL Server Stored Procedures, SSRS reports via Visual Studio and Power BI documents
- SSRS and Visual Studio skills essential to support existing reports
- Power BI skills for existing reports and new future developments
- Be able to work individually demonstrating flexibility, confidence, and initiative to investigate data-related queries
