Job description

The post holder must be able to work independently, interpreting principles and broad strategic policies and plans so as to be able to achieve expected outcomes. The post holder must be able to demonstrate significant initiative but will be able to access advice from the Programme Lead Nurse and other functional leads in DESW. The post holder must be accountable for their own actions and will be required to act as a lead for learning. To represent DESW as required at internal and external meetings, to present and provide feedback or training. This will involve attendance at national workgroups, steering groups and project boards as a representative of the Programme. They must understand the needs of all staff in line with strategies to improve and implement blended learning solutions and resources to better meet the variety of learning styles, needs and roles. To work closely with the Programme, Lead Nurse to design, develop, coordinate, evaluate and maintain the ongoing programme of learning interventions, through competencies, skills, and gap analysis. This will support staff performance in partnership with DESW line managers, providing the workforce with essential skills, within the agreed budget, through collaborative delivery and facilitation approved learning packages. To deliver the internal training programme, annual competencies and induction for new starters, providing mentoring and coaching where required. Work with internal and external auditors as required providing information and reports in a professional and timely manner. Internal verifier Line-manage the Learning & Development team, including recruitment and selection decisions, leave, absence and performance management, my contributions, work allocation, coaching and development. These skills must be transferred into supporting other DESW line managers with performance, capabilities, and development needs of staff. Carry out any other duties of a comparable nature as and when required, including the development, creation and maintenance of electronic and hard copy files. This should encompass reports, tracking systems and notifications for when competence expiries are expected. The post holder will be directly in contact with participants and stakeholders when observing and assessing clinical practice. They must be professional and maintain confidentiality when supporting the delivery of learning interventions. The post holder must possess highly developed knowledge across a broad range of workforce learning and development activities and initiatives, underpinned by a relevant professional qualification/in-depth and recent experience. This will include the need to evidence competence in designing and delivery of training programmes to a broad range of audiences and topics. The post holder should have demonstrable experience of effective project and programme management, supportive of managing and delivering against targets. In addition, a proven track record in building partnerships and working in collaboration with organisations from the public, private and voluntary sectors. The post holder should be able to demonstrate a commitment to life-long learning through personal and continuous professional development.
