What you will do in your working day

At all times we adopt a professional and industry correct manner and create an environment where the welfare of the animals is our primary concern.  Whilst we have guided working hours, as in all animal related jobs, the day finishes when all the duties are done, and not when the finishing time comes around.

Our new apprentice will fill a vital role within our team, working a 5-day week.  Their main role will be to:

• Assist the unit animal care assessor trainers with the efficient and safe running of the animal unit. 
• All aspects of animal care duties, cleaning out, feeding, watering and all animal care duties.
• Help to oversee students, and our volunteer and work experience students

We would expect our apprentice to have an understanding of the need to have a professional distance from the Derby College students and an awareness of safeguarding responsibilities. They would also be expected to be confident enough to enforce the animal unit and college rules and ensure that students worked in a safe and risk-free environment.

The training you will be getting

• Level 2 Animal Care and Welfare Assistant (Standard) qualification
• Your work and training will be based at Derby College's Broomfield Hall Campus

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

• At the end of the apprenticeship, the candidate would be excellently prepared to follow a career path working with animals at another establishment or apply for any relevant positions available at DCG at the time of completion.
