Job description

Are you an experienced analyst looking to stretch your analytical capability and policy skill, while working on high-profile issues close to the centre of Government? If so, we'd love to hear from you!

The Equalities & Living Standards Analysis (ELSA) branch is made up of six analysts. We support policy development across HMT by leading on both poverty, cost-of-living and general living standards-related analysis as well as equalities and disparities analysis. We analyse how economic shocks and public policy affect living standards, and whether any changes to these are felt evenly across diverse groups in society. We also work across HM Treasury to track and proactively support the department in responding to Cost-of-Living issues, working closely with policy teams, private offices and the parliamentary branch.

About the role

We are looking for a Policy Analyst to join us in working on the Living Standards and Poverty analysis side of the branch. Our work provides an attractive blend of high-profile cross-cutting policy thinking and detailed analytical challenges and is ideally suited to someone who is interested in using their analytical skills to dynamically craft narrative and strategy. However, you'll have many opportunities for flexible working with the Equalities and Disparities Analysis side of the branch, as well as with our partner Distributional Analysis branch.

Key accountabilities:

About you

Our successful candidate will hold a numerate degree, in Economics, Statistics or similar. You’ll also hold membership (or be eligible for membership) of the badged analytical professions (GES, GSS, GORS, GSR) or analytical professions covered by the Government Analysis Function. You’ll be skilled at communicating complex analysis clearly and succinctly to a mixed audience, as well as building positive and productive working relationships to achieve tangible outcomes.
