Job description
The Role: To provide support to kind and loving young male who has a severe learning disability and Down Syndrome. This is a 2:1 role, and the family would like to see you as a friend, more than a support worker. He is extremely funny and a joy to be around, although at times can present challenging behaviours. He loves to be outside exploring and walking through forests. He has complex sensory issues, and these can cause him distress at times. The family are ideally looking for a support worker who is self-employed but would consider an employed position for the right candidate.
Main Duties:
• To attend Longleat and other exciting outings.
• To attend the family home and build a trusting relationship.
• To promote independence and life-skills.
• To provide personal care, such as changing pads.
• To support around food – such as cutting up the food and mashing some food. He may need to be encouraged to feed himself.
• To encourage him to drink.
• Constant supervision, he has no awareness of danger.
• To support on long walks, this will be in the countryside or somewhere quiet.
• To attend small quiet beaches.
• To attend the cinema.
• Enjoys singing and dancing.
• To occasionally use his manual wheelchair.
• To attend the library - He loves books and magazines.
• To support with regulation when he is physical.

• Good communication skills and social skills.
• Punctual, and flexible.
• To use your own initiative.
• Experience is not essential but is desirable.
• To work closely with your 2nd support worker.
• To understand and respond to care needs.
• Car owner with driving license and business insurance is desirable.
Please note that the person undertaking this role may be requested to supply evidence of DBS clearance and/or references where appropriate. This role may be subject to a DBS check.
Hours: 4 hours per week during the school term. (To be worked a Saturday or Sunday.
12 hours per week during the school holidays (to be worked a Tuesday & Thursday, Saturday/Sunday, although can be flexible with these days)
Occasional overnights may be required to cover other carer (in the family home)
Pay: £15.56 per hour
