Job description
JOB PURPOSE: To create a secure, stimulating environment, using your skills and imagination to help children to learn and to work with parents to support their children. The Early Years Practitioner plays a vital part in a child's learning and development through play and teaching whilst working alongside the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

Essential Requirements:
Willingness to learn and undertake further training.
Level 3 Qualification in Early Years Education
Previous experience of working with young children.
Sound knowledge of child development from birth to five years.
Knowledge of the EYFS.
Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures, and a commitment to continuously promote a culture of safeguarding.
Good communication skills.
An understanding of play-based approaches to children’s learning and development.
A commitment to equal opportunities.
A commitment to working effectively with young children and families.
A friendly and flexible approach at work which facilitates the development of effective relationships.
Preferred Requirements:
Current First Aid at Work/Paediatric First Aid qualification
Basic Food Hygiene Certification
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Role of Early Years Practitioner:
To provide a safe, caring, stimulating educational environment, both indoors and outdoors, at all times.
To deliver an appropriate play based EYFS curriculum that enables children to make individual progress.
To help ensure that the Pre-school meets Ofsted requirements at all times
To work with other professionals for the benefit of children and families.
To understand and work to pre-school policies and procedures, including how to deal with child protection issues (Safeguarding) appropriately and how to respond to incidents, accidents, complaints and emergencies.
To plan activities in line with the planning cycle which ensure each child is working towards their Early Learning outcomes.
To ensure records are properly maintained, e.g. daily attendance register, accident and incident book, risk assessments, individual child progress trackers, progress summaries and reports.
To liaise closely with parents/carers, informing them about the Pre-school and its curriculum, exchanging information about children’s progress and encouraging parents’ involvement.
To work in partnership with management to update and review the self-evaluation and improvement plan.
To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed, in accordance with the Pre-school aims and objectives.
Making observations using your skills as an effective Pre-school practitioner.
To ensure that the correct child to adult ratios are adhered to at all times.
To act as Key worker to a group of children and ensure their needs are reflected in the curriculum of the Preschool and records kept up to date, observations carried out and encouragement provided where needed. Manage any behavioural or developmental concerns working alongside parents/carers.
Recognise and act upon children’s additional or special educational needs and ensure effective support for these children, in liaison with the SENCO.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES
To contribute to planning

Keep the Pre-school clean, tidy and organised
Support children’s play and relationships
Carry out home visits, as required
Communicate with parents on a routinely basis
Carry out routine daily activities, such as circle time, snack, song time, story time
Carry out planned activities
Provide feedback to the team and take part in reflective practice
Support in the maintenance and upkeep of equipment and buildings
Create, maintain and update displays
Effectively manage children’s behaviour
Implement the principles of EYFS
Prepare meals and snack, involving the children as much as possible
Support with cooking and meal preparation
Monitor, track and record children’s development
Support children with toileting
Contribute to managing children’s transitions
Contribute to managing inventory and ordering or materials, resources and consumables
Ensure that children are properly supervised
Support children’s independence and development
Set up play materials and prepare the play space
Manage the bookings of key child parent consultations
