Purpose of the role
The business is driven by a highly automated 24/365 IT operation using in-house
software, with a focus on reliability, redundancy and automatic recovery. On a good day
we will process 60,000+ orders and 3,000,000+ files, totalling over 2TB of data. These
files and orders are downloaded, stored, manipulated (rendered/imposed), batched,
printed, tracked through production and dispatched, all through our proprietary software
and within demanding SLAs.
The main development work will be on the workflow automation system - creatively
titled ‘Workflow’ (we’re good at names)! Working in a small development team of (when
recruited) 6, within a larger IT team of 16, requires a varied and flexible approach, being
able to work on database/table designs, designing services and APIs, up to HTML UI/UX.
Likewise you will be required/able to work on projects ranging from improving our multithreaded download agent, integrating new client APIs, interfacing with hardware APIs, creating UIs to improve the efficiency of production staff, creating new services for
completely new features and – of course – debugging and improving existing code.
The projects will be a mix of team-based work, so clear communication is key, as well as
solo work requiring discipline and self-management. In some cases, you may be asked to
take sole responsibility for an area of the system and generally be an expert/oracle on
that area.
The Software Developer will be a key member of our dynamic software development
team, responsible for contributing to both collaborative and individual projects. Working
under the guidance of the Software Development Manager, this role will involve utilizing
Visual Studio and other development tools to design, create, and maintain software
solutions in C#.
We primarily use C# and MS SQL, with TypeScript/JavaScript on the front-end, though
we also have some existing VB.Net code so familiarity with all of those would be desired.
Experience with cloud services such as Azure ServiceBus, WCF, MVC/WebAPI,
XML/JSON, Autofac and Subversion would be beneficial.

Key responsibilities & tasks
Collaborate with the software development team to design, develop, and
maintain software applications
• Work with the business, the Business Analyst and wider team to identify
requirements and design considerations
• Perform code reviews, testing, debugging, and troubleshooting to ensure
software quality and reliability and to ensure that requirements are met
• To document the code as per standard operating procedures
• Keep abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to recommend and
implement innovative solutions
