Job description
The Post:
The Faculty of Health Sciences and Sport (University of Stirling) in
partnership with Paths for All is seeking to appoint a Knowledge Transfer
Associate as part of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project. This
exciting opportunity is for a person interested in working with adolescents
to improve adolescent health and wellbeing through physical
activity/walking using digital technology on the project T3: Teens, Tech,
and Trails. The person employed in this role will have an academic
supervisor (Dr Simone Tomaz, University of Stirling) and will be
line-managed by Carl Greenwood (Paths for All). Dr Sam Fawkner (University
of Edinburgh) and Prof Trish Gorely (University of the Highlands and
Islands) are the supporting academics for the project.
In line with Paths for All’s mission to support people in Scotland to be active every day through walking, the aim of this project is to extend the demographic reach of the company’s delivery programmes by co-creating and piloting a new digital walking challenge incentive (e.g., a Young People’s Step Count Challenge) to support young people’s physical health, mental health, and social wellbeing. To do this, we are looking for an associate who is able to develop an excellent working relationship with young people aged 11-17y, teachers, the current Paths for All web developer, and existing invested Paths for All partners, whilst also seeking new collaborators with vested interest in young people’s physical activity and wellbeing.
There is an expectation that work will be undertaken in the UK. Paths for All are based in Stirling and currently have a blended working policy where time is divided between the Stirling office, home, and roam.
Description of Duties:
It is envisioned that the associate will use the latest thinking in
behaviour change theory to develop a thorough understanding of how digital
devices and platforms can support the promotion of physical activity and
reduction of sedentary behaviour in young people. Additionally, the post
will require some experience or knowledge of using co-production methods
with young people and teachers. As the project progresses, the associate
will be expected to collate, present and review project progress and be
able to deliver this information to a variety of audiences, including young
people and the Paths for All organisation.
The post does require a few short bouts of travel between Stirling and the Highlands, specifically to high schools in Inverness, where the associate will work closely with Prof Trish Gorely (UHI).
To extend the demographic reach of Paths for All programmes by co-creating a new walking challenge incentive to support young people’s physical health, mental health and social wellbeing.
Paths for All is a Scottish Charity. We have a very clear focus. We want to get Scotland walking. Our vision is for Scotland to be a walking nation. We want everyone to have the opportunity to be active every day, creating a happier, healthier and greener Scotland. A key element of this work involves significantly increasing the number of people who choose to walk in Scotland for both leisure and practical journeys.
