Job description
Robert Half are working with a reputable higher education establishment based in Dundee who are seeking a new Financial Accountant. Our client is seeking an experienced Financial Accountant to lead a dynamic team within the research arm of the organisation. In this role, you will oversee a variety activities for externally funded projects, ensuring precise financial accounting and supporting the team in delivering high-quality professional services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a proficient accounts team, providing support for a variety of different activities
- Ensure precise financial accounting for externally funded research projects, including revenue recognition
- Produce budgeting and forecasting, collaborating with the Finance Business Partner Team
- Lead initiatives to enhance forecasting capability for accurate financial performance
- Expedite routine financial reporting, utilising system capabilities to the fullest extent
- Effectively manage foreign currency research projects, minimising currency risks in collaboration with the Treasury Manager
- Produce cash flow forecasts for research activities, working closely with the Treasury Manager
- Maintain service delivery adherence to policies and legal, regulatory, and financial requirements
- Communicate technical research issues and accounting/reporting requirements to internal and external stakeholders
- Lead initiatives and strategic decision-making, working autonomously as needed
- Identify improvement opportunities, resolve financial issues, and challenge established ways of working
- Liaise and negotiate with external parties, providing robust financial and strategic input
- Collaborate with senior team members to cultivate a culture of continuous improvement
- Deputise for the Head of Research Finance Services as required
Your profile:
- Fully qualified accountant (ICAEW, ICAS, CIMA, ACCA, or equivalent) with post-qualification experience
- Application of financial/business processes and controls
- Up-to-date knowledge of technical accounting developments and practice
- Thorough understanding of fundamental accounting principles and transactions
- Experience of internal and external reporting within an organisation of comparable size
- Experience of communicating financial information to non-finance specialists at all levels
Salary will be within a range of £45,000 - £55,000 base plus a competitive benefits package.
