What does it mean to be a Howarth Timber & Building Supplies Yard Supervisor?
Our Yard Supervisors are responsible for the effective and efficient supervision of all colleagues working in the branch’s external yard and warehouses, to ensure that customers are consistently receiving industry leading customer service. Whilst being a hands-on role, the successful candidate will be fully accountable for the supervision of the branch’s external yard and warehouses colleagues, ensuring that a safe working environment is always adhered to, in line with company policy.
Yard Supervisor role responsibilities
Accurately accounting for goods inwards, checking off deliveries and booking stock in correctly.
Ensuring all colleagues accurately complete tally tickets, for customers collecting goods from the yard/warehouses.
Accurately picking and wrapping goods to be delivered to customers.
Efficient, safe storage of stock in the yard and warehouses.
Maintaining optimum housekeeping standards and presentation.
Coaching colleagues to engage with new customers visiting the branch for the first time, offering and promoting trade customer accounts (Cash & Credit).
Ensure training requirements for responsible staff are identified and delivered.
Ensure responsible staff work effectively as part of the wider branch team
Any other duties deemed reasonable within the scope of the job role
What are the requirements to be part of our team?
Availability to work full time, Monday to Friday inclusive, plus alternate Saturday mornings (0800-1200)
Previous experience of supervising a team of individuals
Current forklift/sideloader licence
Understanding and experience of the builder’s merchant industry including related Health & Safety compliance
Excellent communication and organisational skills
Ability to work as part of a team and individually
Self-motivated
Willingness to attend all training courses deemed appropriate to the job role
