Job description
We have a fantastic opportunity for a dynamic, enthusiastic and highly motivated Occupational Therapist to join a rotational post which will include the Combined Stroke Unit (Hyper-acute Stroke Unit and Stroke Unit), Neuro Outlier Inpatients, Regional Hyper-acute Rehabilitation Unit at Northwick Park Hospital, neuro team in Central Middlesex Hospital, and Brent Stroke Early Supported Discharge team and
Applicants must have experience within the field of neuro-rehabilitation, and be expected to provide a high quality, client-led, goal focused rehabilitation to all patients. Applicants will have experience of managing junior staff and students and have a strong commitment to clinical governance and development within this speciality.
The successful applicant will support senior staff in managing the Occupational Therapy team and be able to demonstrate efficacy and flexibility in adapting communication style to the needs of the patients and the staff. The successful applicant will receive regular clinical supervision and support along with an opportunity to develop and progress their career through regular training.
The RHRU is a Level 1 Unit and is a well-regarded 24 bed Inpatient Unit that offers intensive multi-disciplinary neurorehabilitation following acquired brain injury.
The Brent Stroke Early Supported Discharge Team provides therapy for stroke patients immediately from hospital discharge to commence a structured rehabilitation program in their own environment.
• This post holder will be an autonomous practitioner in this rotation post , assisting in the coordination and provision of a specialist occupational therapy service to patients in the Stroke Unit, neuro outliers inpatients, Brent Stroke ESD, RHRU
• He/She will provide assessment and treatment for patients with a wide range of complex physical, sensory, perceptual and cognitive problems with inpatient, which may include visits to assess the home environment.
• He/She will be expected to manage their own caseload working alongside the multi disciplinary team and other external agencies to ensure specialist treatment plans, including physio, Social Services, specialist nurses etc.
• In some areas there is a key worker system where the post holder will be expected to adhere to the key worker criteria and policies.
• He/She will be expected to work collaboratively with patients, family, carers and with colleagues in health and social services to ensure effective service planning, and delivery of services to their specific patient group.
• He/She could be asked to deputise in the absence of the team lead to represent the department at relevant meetings both in and outside the Trust.
• The post holder will contribute to departmental meetings, and participate in audits and regularly undertake research and CPD activities in specialist area of interest within neuro and stroke.
