Job description
The Chief Engineer is responsible for providing independent technical governance to the Marine Systems Engineering and Design teams and enabling it to deliver high quality competitive engineering solutions to our customers.
In this role they shall provide guidance for all topics relating to technical authority and compliance and are accountable for the technical governance of all engineering activities and engineering deliverables undertaken within their perimeter.
The Chief Engineer will own the technical roadmap and work closely with the Capability Business Unit to develop the capability of business to meet future customer needs.
In addition they will work closely with the market facing MBU in support of the Winning Work process.
- The Chief Engineer is responsible for technical governance of Marine Systems Engineering, ensuring that Expleo is compliant and mitigates technical risk.
- Develop and maintain a Technology and Capability strategy for Marine Systems Engineering based on market needs.
- Support Account Delivery Director and the Business Development team in winning business, looking at key technical ways of differentiation.
- Validating engineering requirements ensuring the Customer needs are fully understood and fulfilled.
- Technical Approval of offers to ensure that Technical and Business risks are minimised.
- Signing declarations, certificates, and release of technical documentation in line with approvals held and where appropriate to ensure that export control, CE Marking, and Safety related activities are maintained up to date in line with legislation and company needs.
- Monitoring that the correct capabilities and skills have been applied to meet specific project requirements.
- Ensuring that the engineering organisation is SQEP and hold the correct delegated authority to execute their roles.
- Ensure that the processes and practices are fit for purpose to discharge the technical governance.
- The continuous improvement of the engineering area and contribution of continuous improvement of engineering within the Marine activities.
- Ensuring technical reviews are conducted in accordance with the product/project requirement and appropriate records produced including the robust implementation of lessons learned through the updating of Marine processes, practices and knowledge capture means.
- Candidates should have a Degree / HND or equivalent in Marine Engineering or an associated discipline. Chartered Engineer status is preferred.
- The candidate shall have a proven track record in leading multi-functional teams to design and development of Marine Systems for surface vessels and submarines. across a range of disciplines.
- Detailed knowledge of Marine design standards and Legislation.
- Robust knowledge of the quality requirements of ISO9001 and Expleo QMS.
- Demonstrated experience in a customer facing engineering role.
- Recognising the RESTRICTED nature of the work, suitable candidates will need the following:
- UK National
- SC Clearance preferred.
