Salary: £500/day
We are currently seeking a skilled Principal Accountant to join a local authority finance team on a hybrid contract basis for three months.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Planning: Provide high-quality financial information, training, modeling, analysis, support, and advice to stakeholders across the Council. Assist in identifying and implementing savings and value for money improvements. Conduct complex financial modeling and forecasting to support decision making and budget planning.
Budget Monitoring/Financial Reporting: Prepare or contribute to high-quality financial reports for finance and non-finance professionals, including members and senior officers. Establish and maintain effective systems and processes for budget management and financial reporting. Ensure timely and accurate production of statutory returns, grant claims, taxation returns, and other requests for financial information. Establish and maintain an effective quality control and compliance monitoring framework to identify financial issues and risks early and take remedial actions as needed.
Requirements:
Degree level or equivalent qualification, or extensive relevant experience.
Membership of an appropriate professional body by examination (e.g., CIPFA or other CCAB body), plus evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
Excellent communication and analytical skills.
Ability to work with high-level internal and external stakeholders.
Experience in a local authority or public sector.
