Leys Youth Hub Coordinator

Oxford City Council

Location

Oxford, Oxfordshire | United Kingdom

Job description

The role
Oxford City Council and County Council are excited to be able to offer an opportunity to lead the delivery of our brand new state of the art Youth Hub. The hub will include spaces for young people aged between 11-18 (or up to 25 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities). It will include a community kitchen, music area and climbing wall and will be a one stop shop for accessing positive activities, advice and guidance.

The Youth Hub won’t be open until winter 2024, so this role offers some real creative opportunity to lead the programme of engagement using community partnerships and young people’s input both before and when in place. The role will also look to bring additional value to the project by completing funding applications when they arise.

Oxford City Council’s vision is that every child and young person can fulfil their potential and become happy, safe, successful, healthy and active citizens. This aligns with Oxfordshire County Council’s Strategic Plan 2023 – 2025, with the priority to Create opportunities for children and young people to reach their full potential.

Our Thriving Communities Strategy outlines a commitment to the equality, inclusion, and engagement of children and young people. This role has been created to enable more young people to access a range of local positive activities and experiences which will support their future resilience, wellbeing and ability to thrive.

The children and young people strand of the Thriving Communities Strategy through the Youth Ambition program targets young people who fall under the following priority groups; those not involved in employment, education or training; involved with social services, disabled, black, Asian and minority ethnic, in and leaving care, carers, young women, involved with the criminal justice system, lesbian, gay, bi-sexual or transgender, refugees and asylum seekers.

The opportunity to secure Youth Investment Funding to enable a youth hub in one of the areas of greater inequality in the city was made possible in partnership with the county's Targeted Youth Support Service.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of disadvantaged children and young people. You should have a qualification relevant to working with children and young people and have demonstrable experience in leading and running open access provision including working with disadvantaged and vulnerable groups.

We asked a group of young people what skills, experience and character they think the ideal candidate should have, they said the ideal worker should have a friendly, fun and happy personality and previous experience of working with children and young people.
