Sourcing Buyer

Location: Alton, GU34 2QR
Salary: £40 – £48k, DOE + Benefits
Contract: Permanent, Full time
Hours: 40 hours

• 24 days plus birthday rising by one day after two and four years

Sourcing Buyer – About the role:

As a Sourcing Buyer you will be responsible for developing category strategies to ensure we have a robust and competitive supply chain. The Sourcing Buyer plays a pivotal role in sourcing and procuring raw materials, commodities, and packaging essential for the company’s operations.

This role involves strategic planning, negotiation, and supplier relationship management to ensure cost-effectiveness, quality, and reliability of the sourced products.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Work with the Group Procurement Manager to develop category strategies for each area of responsibility, based on market analysis, supplier capabilities, and business requirements. Identify cost-saving opportunities and alternative sourcing options to optimise the supply chain.
• Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, negotiate contracts, and establish favorable terms and conditions. Conduct supplier evaluations and performance reviews to ensure adherence to quality standards, delivery schedules, and cost targets.
• Monitor market trends, industry dynamics, and geopolitical factors affecting commodity prices and availability. Anticipate supply chain risks and develop contingency plans to mitigate disruptions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, operations, and quality assurance, to align sourcing strategies with business objectives and ensure seamless integration into the supply chain.
• Ensure early engagement with the commercial team and suppliers to ensure we are sourcing the best products from the beginning of our projects.
• Identify and drive cost reduction activities.
• Develop and lead global supplier relationships.
• Work with suppliers and engineering to identify new technologies to reduce cost and or add additional value to our products.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, corporate policies, and ethical standards in sourcing practices. Conduct due diligence on suppliers to assess their compliance with environmental, social, and governance.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement, standardization, and automation within the strategic sourcing function. Implement best practices and drive initiatives to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
• Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and new technologies related to procurement
• Monitor inventory levels and work closely with production planning to ensure adequate supply
• Any other activity required to complete this role, and support the wider Procurement function.
• Provide cover within the Procurement team when needed.

Sourcing Buyer – Candidate, you will have:

• CIPS qualification (but not essentials)
• Significant procurement experience preferably within a manufacturing business (Min 5 years)
• Experience developing and implementing successful long-term category strategies.
• Confident negotiator with a proven record of creating cost savings ideas and delivering significant reductions
• Experience working with a global supply base – ability to travel globally as and when required.
• Ability to build strong internal relationships
• Experience with Supplier audits
• Proven contract management and supplier experience
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to engage, negotiate and manage key stakeholders and suppliers
• Computer literate, especially Excel skills
• Ability to demonstrate flexibility/versatility combined with initiative, drive, and ability to meet deadlines.
• Ability to work autonomously and flexibly, responding to business needs as required.
• Conscientious, professional, analytical, ability to define own work priorities, reputation for delivery on time.
