As Senior Mechanic with RLS, you’ll safely prepare our equipment and machinery as well as those of our clients. You’ll care about every detail and take pride in doing a meticulous job. Manage and oversee the work of junior mechanics and provide the appropriate on the job training as necessary. You will report into the management team on a daily basis ensuring that all short-term planning requirements are in place..
Responsibilities
- Working with the Parts manager and other mechanics to diagnose and repair the mechanical and electrical components of commercial plant.
- Performing test drives, inspections, and other diagnostic tests on vehicles to identify where problems exist and determine which parts need to be repaired or replaced.
- Completing preventative maintenance on vehicles, such as performing oil changes, flushing and replacing fluids, and replacing brakes.
- Inspecting internal systems and controls to ensure the vehicle is operating properly and in compliance with regulations.
- Maintaining accurate records relating to clients, their vehicles, parts, and service history.
- Using shop equipment as instructed, performing regular maintenance and repairs as needed.
- Engaging in learning opportunities to update job knowledge and technical skills.
- Inspecting vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately, using computer-based diagnostic equipment.
- Supervision and training junior mechanics.
- Dealing with customers while out on site and remaining professional at all times.
- Repairing or replacing broken or defective parts and resolving defects.
- Carry out thorough examinations on machines.
- 6 weekly checks on lorries.
- Maintaining equipment and making sure tools are in good condition.
- Following checklists to ensure all procedures are completed.
- Management of workshop to include clearing and cleaning down on a weekly basis.
- Any other duties as required.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Additional education, certifications, or experience is generally preferred.
- Proven ability to diagnose and repair vehicles and follow safety instructions and directions.
- Clean driver's licence.
- Excellent active listening, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Good management skills - can work to deadlines.
- Proficiency with hand tools and other equipment.

- Self-motivated, independent, and reliable with a strong work ethic.
- The ability to work in a competent and efficient manner on your own or part of a busy team.
