About the role

We are looking for a dedicated and innovative Sustainability Manager to lead our commitment to a greener and more sustainable future.

Heritage Services operate the Roman Baths, Fashion Museum, Victoria Art Gallery, Bath World Heritage Centre and Bath Record Office. It is a £22m turnover business, welcoming more than 1 million visitors a year, from around the world. However, we are not only a treasure trove of history; as we strive to maintain the legacy of the past, we recognise the urgent need to safeguard the future through sustainable practices.

As our Sustainability Manager, you will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing sustainable initiatives across the iconic sites and collections that we care for. You will work closely across the Service to improve our practices, reduce our carbon footprint, and engage our visitors and supporters in our conservation efforts.

This is a varied and diverse role, from supporting our facilities team develop a retrofit plan for our historic buildings, to working closely with Retail colleagues ensuring that our supply chain support our net zero goals and products are sustainably sourced; you will evolve the Services’ response to the climate and nature emergency and engage employees in the importance and urgency of work in this area.

This role will also join the Sustainability Managers Forum within the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions (ALVA). Through the development of partnerships with other major attractions, you will help us to make meaningful change across the Museum, Heritage and Tourism sector as a whole.

This is a crucial, strategic position for the Service and the right candidate has the opportunity to work in, and influence one of, the leading cultural sites and visitor businesses in the UK.

About You

You will bring proven experience in sustainability management, ideally within a heritage, cultural, or tourism setting, along with in-depth knowledge of environmental regulations and sustainability best practices.

Adaptable and flexible, you will be brilliant at engaging and motivating stakeholders, employees, and customers to actively support sustainability goals, as well as taking a cooperative approach to achieving organisational goals with other departments.

Your excellent communication skills will create meaningful, collaborative relationships across the Service. Your energy, drive and creative thinking will challenge and improve our environmental performance to make long-term change to the way we operate.
