Job description
The foundations have been put in place; we now need you the commercially bias Managing Director to build the blocks.
Your journey to the position of Managing director has ideally been via the Sales/Commercial Director path .
A bit of history, this business was led by an iron fist, there was a blame culture, dominant hierarchy, people were carrying out their basic tasks, nothing more, just clocking in and out; even in the sales office you could hear a pin drop
Fast forward 18 months and the office is a thriving hub of committed and driven people, succession plans have been addressed, people are recognised and rewarded for their commitment and success, its genuinely a pleasure to walk into the building.
What s changed?
The current Managing Director, he was bought in from group to revamp, change the culture, the way he describes his team these guys are brilliant we have a hub of industry knowledge .
So why do we need you? He has been called back overseas to another part of the group where his talents are required, so we need you to pick up where he has got to.
When he arrived, the company were living hand to mouth in terms of their order book, but now they have a fantastic pipeline with some great projects on the horizon and are already 30% ahead financially of where they were this time last year.
What did he do? He treated his team well, he embraced their ideas, he surrounded himself with people that were better than him at doing some of the job roles and he recognised and rewarded his staff.
The Operations and Production department run very well, only about 10 % of his time is pulled into these areas, but they still need a leader and support.
You will have full P&L responsibility, 7 direct reports and overall accountability for 70 employees, your role as Managing Director is autonomous reporting into the group CEO based overseas, and as the current MD is staying within group, he is happy to provide remote mentorship and will not just hand over and run.
Your background will be leading a manufacturing company ideally who supply to the construction industry (the industry isn t essential) as long as it s a manufactured product and you have had overall P&L responsibility.
Although you will be responsible for the site in the West Midlands you work closely with your fellow directors at 3 other sites, as your Marketing, HR and Engineering team are employed at group level.

The team have had the old school do I say approach and there will be fear of that returning, but as someone with these attributes you will simply pick up the reigns continuing this path.
The salary and benefits on offer is negotiable, with a banding of around GBP90 – GBP110k basic company car/car allowance.
Immediate start is essential, with a maximum of 3 months notice period to be considered due to this unique situation.
