What you will do in your working day
As a Mechanical Design Apprentice, you'll be immersed in a variety of tasks ranging from assisting with scoping calculations to crafting intricate models and detailed drawings. You'll also play a pivotal role in producing design-based documentation and technical reports, ensuring our projects meet the highest standards.
Your day-to-day activities will include:
- Assisting in the production of scoping calculations and supporting analysis
- Crafting models and drawings using state-of-the-art software
- Engaging in site surveying and producing design-based documentation
- Collaborating with teams to ensure hazard elimination, risk reduction, and adherence to quality systems
- You’ll also spend time undertaking placements across a range of business areas, gaining a holistic view of our operations
- By the end of your apprenticeship, you'll have gained valuable experience, honed your skills and be ready to take on even greater challenges in the world of mechanical design
- With the foundation you've built, you'll be an invaluable asset to our team and the broader industry
The training you will be getting
- You’ll receive practical and theoretical training, combined with company-specific training given in the workplace
- At Wigan & Leigh College, you'll work towards the Level 5 Nuclear Technician (Mech) Apprenticeship standard. This blend of classroom learning and on-the-job training will make sure you're well-prepared for a career as a Mechanical Designer
What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship
- Upon completion of the apprenticeship, you will move into a substantive position within the business
