Job Title: Deputy Manager
Location: Mansfield, Nottingham, NG21
Salary: £35 - £38K
Working Week: Mon-Fri
Working Hours: 40
Shifts: Over Mon-Sun, including BH, 40 hours per week excluding sleeps
Qualifications: Level 3 Diploma in Residential Child Care and Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or willingness to complete Level 5 within 2 years)
Experience: Minimum of 3 Years in Residential with Children or Young Adults
UK Driving Licence: Required
Start Date: May/June 2024
The Home: This is a new home, accommodating 3 YPs aged 7 to 17 on admission, this will be a EBD Home.
The Provider and Home
The provider is committed to achieving the best possible outcomes for children , creating a warm, nurturing environment supporting safety, growth, and development. Influenced by the PACE model and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy , caregiving emphasizes an attachment and trauma-informed approach. Staff members have trained accordingly, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of children's behaviours and effective engagement from assessment to intervention. The therapeutic partnership with Enabling Hope further supports the development of children and staff through direct work and consultations.
The role of Deputy
The Deputy Manager effectively utilises all available resources to deliver evidence-based, outcomes-focused childcare in the absence of the Registered Manager. Under the Registered Manager's direction, practical leadership and management in childcare are demonstrated, organizing, and supporting staff to provide the best possible care for each child and young person.
Support the Registered Manager:
- Ensure the effective implementation of relevant legislation and regulations.
- Manage matters related to child protection in line with legislation and best safeguarding practices.
- Maintain the highest standards of childcare and implement each child and young person’s agreed placement plan.
- Coordinate and access appropriate services to meet the needs of each child and young person.
Care for Children:
- Improve the lives of children and young people in care.
- Ensure admission assessments, matching, and placement planning are completed in line with organizational policies.
- Assign a Key Worker for all children and young people.
- Ascertain, record, and act upon the wishes and feelings of all children – in their interest, regarding their welfare.
- Provide quality assurance to reports prepared by Key Workers/other staff.
- Ensure the timely completion of assessments, plans, and reviews.
- Ensure the Keyworker/appropriate person attends all meetings for/with children and young people.
Leadership:
- Engage in supervision with the Registered Manager.
- Provide day-to-day leadership and management in childcare practice within the home.
- Ensure staff familiarity with and implementation of organizational policies, procedures, and practices regarding Safeguarding and Child Protection.
- Promote the organizational approach to childcare.
- Induct, supervise, coach, and appraise staff, ensuring they embrace and deliver the organizational approach.
Home Management:
- Recruit and select staff to improve the lives of children and young people.
- Supervise staff in line with organizational Supervision Policy.
- Develop Individual Personal Development Plans with staff to ensure their training needs are identified and met.
- Ensure staff complete case management and administration requirements.
- Take steps to ensure accommodation is maintained to safe, high standards.
- Manage delegated budgets and the rota for optimal child welfare.
Health & Safety:
- Implement Health & Safety policies.
- Undertake risk assessments as appropriate.
- Record and report all incidents/accidents according to procedures.
- Undertake fire drills and tests in accordance with procedure.
Other duties: Undertake other duties required commensurate with the post.
Person Specification:
Essential:
- Must achieve or hold the NVQ Level 4 Diploma for Residential Childcare or an equivalent. Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Care or an equivalent
- 3 Year Experience in Residential childcare, Child Protection, Supervision of staff, Therapeutic work with children
- A sound knowledge of the Children Act 1989, Care Standards Act 2000, Children’s Home Regulations, Safeguarding Children procedures, Direct work skills, Audit & Quality Assurance
- Have the skills to Lead staff, perform Staff supervision, Good written and verbal communication, IT literacy, Management of budgets and staff rotas
- Will be Committed to achieving the best outcomes for children, Able to adopt required shift pattern – including sleeping-in, Demonstrated commitment to ongoing personal development, Adaptive and solution-focused
