Ten hours 1:1 teaching, 1.5 hours ensemble (Two days – Tuesday and Wednesday)

Music is central to life at Haberdashers, exceptional in both its quality and breadth of opportunity. We deliver over 500 instrumental lessons and over 75 ensembles every week. Recent concert highlights have included LSO St Luke’s, St John’s Smith Square, and Kings Place – our Habs Elstree Symphony Orchestra, with its scope to draw on talent from both Elstree Schools, is amongst the finest school orchestras in the country.

We are looking to appoint a new Teacher of Orchestral Percussion. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a team of experienced orchestral tutors; teaching 1:1 lessons, preparing students for ensembles, as well as leading percussion groups.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver 1:1 lessons on a range of orchestral percussion instruments, as well as early level drum kit
• Lead a percussion ensemble, preparing them towards performances in school concerts
• Recommend students for large ensembles, ensuring opportunities are open to as many students as possible
• Assist in some large ensembles, playing in the percussion section and leading by example
• Manage percussion instruments, working with the music technician to ensure we have the correct setup for major ensembles/concerts and overseeing the upkeep and maintenance of instruments and equipment
• Write termly reports
• Complete required compliance and safeguarding training
• Attend weekly staff meetings

• Passionate about orchestral music
• Dedicated and considered educator who can inspire students from all backgrounds and disciplines 
• A natural communicator with an infectious love for their subject
• High level of interpersonal skills who can work as part of a team
• An organised person who can keep accurate records of their work
