Job description
This position is for the role of a Railway Electrical Design Engineer in AECOM's Electrical and Mechanical department. The ideal candidate must possess railway knowledge, with experience in both single and multidisciplinary projects related to points heating, lighting, and signalling power. While familiarity with station and depot services is preferred, it is not mandatory. As a design engineer, responsibilities include developing electrical fixed plant designs, calculations, reports, specifications, schematic, and layout drawings for railway projects. The candidate must ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and client specifications, implementing quality control measures to guarantee the accuracy, reliability, and safety of electrical designs. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, project managers, and engineering managers is crucial for integrating electrical systems with other railway infrastructure elements. This includes but is not limited to track systems, signalling systems, telecommunication networks, and civil engineering. The candidate will also be involved in integrating new electrical designs with existing or modified railway systems. Collaborate, converse, and actively participate in meetings with project managers, contractors, and other stakeholders to address design-related challenges and provide technical support to junior engineers. The candidate should be capable of independently resolving routine design issues and applying knowledge/training to complex tasks with minimal supervision. Efficiently managing work and coordinating electrical design aspects of railway projects to ensure timely delivery and adherence to budget constraints are essential. This position is suitable for a Design Engineer currently working in the railway industry or a Project/ construction Engineer seeking to transition from assurance/ construction to design. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or a minimum of 5 years of design, construction or assurance experience in railway electrical engineering. Preferred: Proficiency in CAD software for electrical design (MicroStation or AutoCAD). Preferred: Proficiency in electrical software for electrical design (Amtech (Trimble), Electrical OM, Hevacomp, Etap). Preferred: Proficiency in lighting software for lighting design (Dialux, Relux). Strong knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
