Job description
CEO - Salary c.£90k - Home-based with regular travel for meetings
If you’re looking for the opportunity to be the Chief Executive Officer of an exciting, growing scientific membership organisation and learned society, then read on.
We are the Nuclear Institute (NI), representing all the professions in the nuclear industry. Ours is an important, growing industry, and the perfect place for anyone interested in helping to achieve a low-carbon world and mitigate climate change.
The Institute currently has over 4,000 members and around 300 volunteers, and is supported by a small staff team. We’re continuing to grow because of the part we play in the transition to a low-carbon world, and our next Chief Executive will lead our team in support of our ambitious growth plans and strategic and operational objectives.
We conduct educational and outreach activities, organise events and conferences, produce a respected industry journal, and support professionalism within the industry and of our members. As CEO, your leadership will ensure the Institute’s financial stability, uphold professional standards, and meet our members’ needs.
The CEO role is multifaceted. You will be responsible for the day to day running of the NI and for maintaining our high standards required for maintaining our licensing status. You will be required to expand and develop the NI’s role and influence with all stakeholders, securing the position of NI within the nuclear community. You’ll also take the lead on external communications and build a strong connection with industry leaders.
We also collaborate well with other professional associations, international nuclear institutes and a variety of organisations linked with the nuclear industry. We work closely with the Engineering and Science Councils and Society for the Environment which licence the Nuclear Institute to register our professionals as Chartered Engineers, Scientists and Environmentalists.
The CEO is appointed by, and reports to, the NI Board of Trustees via the President. Since most of our trustees work in the nuclear sector, our next Chief Executive should bring a strong understanding of charity, membership and commercial operations, and be able to proactively advise the Board on risk management and oversee the execution of all aspects of NI governance.
