This is an exciting time to join the People, Analytics and Insights team where you will collaborate with a dedicated group of professionals focused on delivering actionable insights on high-profile themes impacting the workforce at HMRC.

As a people analytics and insights officer you will have the opportunity to work with mixed methods supporting a mix of quantitative data analysis and qualitative research.

This role sits in the Analytics and Insight team within PAI. This team is responsible for carrying out both quantitative and qualitative analysis and insight on HMRC people data. Activity includes, modelling, forecasting, optimisation, research, survey design and implementation and focus groups.

 
HMRC is a significant employer, with 65,000 staff, and therefore people analytics plays an important part in driving change and shaping the future of the organisation. The team was formed specifically to bring a different way of operating to HR and to facilitate greater rigour in the successful delivery of key programmes. This role oversees the delivery of this activity, the professional standards and the innovation applied to find creative ways to deliver highly effective solutions. 

Key Responsibilities  

Person specification
  • Has experience designing and delivering analytical and insight projects. 
  • Is patient, level-headed and able to deliver at pace. 
  • Can take the initiative and work independently when required. 
  • Has a collaborative approach and is keen to work with others to achieve progress against shared objectives.

Essential Criteria  

  • Proficient in statistical software packages such as SPSS and R Studio 
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for conveying research concepts.
  • Familiarity with data storytelling principles to develop a coherent and engaging narrative from a range of data sources. 
  • Experience of data collection and analysis 
  • Experience of interpretation and presentation of data 
  • Experience of application of ethics to research

Experience of two or more of the following

  • Qualitative research design and analysis (e.g. depth interview guides, focus groups).
  • Survey design and implementation.
  • Evaluation approaches (theory-based or experimental).
  • Literature reviews or rapid evidence assessments.
  • Continuous learning mindset to adapt to evolving research requirements and methodologies.

Desirable Criteria  

  • A willingness to take ownership of personal development, setting realistic goals to improve abilities. 
  • Stakeholder engagement skills to support requirements gathering and expectation management.
