Key Responsibilities Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse/Nurse Associate as part of the specialist palliative care services manage own workload. Report symptom control issues to a Registered Nurse/Nurse Associate, providing a basic understanding of psychological support that may be required. Report untoward incidents, after recording actions taken to prevent reoccurrence, ensuring the completion of relevant documentation in accordance with the Rotherham Hospice Policies. Inform a Registered Nurse/Nurse Associate regarding any environmental risks to optimise the health and safety of patients and staff. Act as advocate for patients/family referring directly to a Registered Nurse/Nurse Associate, as appropriate. Act as a mentor/role model for volunteers and students, as a resource, providing support as required. Supporting the work of the Hospice IPU Volunteers. Responsibility for the supervision of Volunteers within the IPU team. Assist in the support of pre-registration nursing students, whilst they are on placement. Report any prejudice and inequalities in access to Hospice provision for individuals. Liaise with a Registered nurse/Nurse Associate for them to provide, basic information and advice on prescribed medication regimes, side effects and interactions. Assist under guidance, in the referral of patients to other appropriate services, both at Rotherham Hospice and to external teams. Ensure patients needing palliative care receive a high standard of palliative care, aligned to the principles of Gold Standards Framework, Ambitions for Care, and an End-of-life Care Pathway.
