Milestone Infrastructure are the UK’s leading highways maintenance provider. Responsible for 48,652 km of road and over 300,000 streetlights, always with a view to ensuring that all works are carried out as sustainably as possible and with minimal impact to local communities.
We have recently been awarded the Wiltshire highways maintenance contract and are looking to recruit a Trainee Technical Administrator to join the operational team based in Melksham.
The successful candidate will work within our Permitting Team and will be required to work closely with the Programme Manager and Operational teams to ensure that we plan, permit works and licence works to ensure that we operate in accordance with the Wiltshire Council Permit Scheme for Road and Street Works, the Milestone Minimum Standards and the New Roads and Streetworks Act Code of Practice.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Process Streetworks permits within requisite timescales and in accordance with good practice and legislation ensuring that the appropriate conditions are applied as necessary.
- Assisting the Programme Manager to report on performance against legislative timeframes described within the Wiltshire Permit Scheme but also Key Performance Indicators associated with Permitting and Licencing as defined on the Contract, driving efficiency and improvement as needed.
- Undertaking internal audit inspections on site to ensure that Milestone are conforming with processes and procedures in relation to Permitting.
- Assist with the delivery of a suite of training across various aspects of the business in relation to permits, licences and application of requires Codes of Practice.
- Assist the Programme Manager at a strategic level on the coordination and delivery of works both internally and externally- e.g. through attendance at HAUC to ensure that we maximise network occupancy and traffic management utilisation.
- Assist the Programme Manager to ensure that enquiries and complaints from members of the public, elected members, officers throughout the council and external agencies in relation to the service are responded to accurately and are within the required timescales.
- With the support of the Programme Manager, ensure that any inspections carried out by Wiltshire Council Traffic and Network Management Team are managed in accordance with our internal process and reported on accordingly, considering lessons learnt working in collaboration with the Operational Teams.
- Provide support to the Programme Manager for managing the delivery of works defined with the Contractors Plan Works Programme in times of absence.
Key Skills and Experience:
- Great team working skills and the ability to collaborate well with others across all levels within the business.
- Excellent communication skills – verbal and written - to ensure clarity in all situations.
- Understanding of the Traffic Management Act (Streetworks Noticing) preferred.
- High level experience with the use of Street Manager and processes preferred.
- Fair Wiltshire geography and road network knowledge preferred.
