Job description

Head of SDG Impact
Research & Innovation Services

Salary: Grade 9, £57,696 - £64,914 per annum

The University of Glasgow has been changing the world for more than 570 years, and today we are one of the world's top 100 universities. We are delighted to have recently been awarded Scottish University of the Year by the Times & Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024.

Our people have always been at the forefront of innovation, and our past achievements inspire our current world changers.

As a University, we care about how we can be a force for good and enact sustainable social impact. The United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide us with a framework through which we can identify ways to contribute to the most pressing global challenges facing humanity and the natural world. As a world-leading, research-intensive institution, the University of Glasgow is deeply committed to addressing the these challenges through its contribution to the UN SDGs. In this newly created role, we are looking to appoint a Head of SDG Impact, who will provide strategic leadership of the University’s activity in relation to the UN SDGs.

About the role
As the Head of SDG Impact, you will work with senior colleagues across the University to shape the long-term strategic direction of our SDG approach, developing and aligning plans in this area with related areas, such as Glasgow Changing Futures initiative.

You will be expected to bring a creative approach to this role, working with Colleges, Schools, and Professional Services colleagues to capture and disseminate the range of quantitative and qualitative data that highlights our contribution to, and alignment with, the UN SDGs. This will include the successful submission of the UofG Impact Rankings submission and the annual SDG Impact Report, a key and high-profile part of our external impact activity.

You will also play a key role in shaping the Directorate business plan and associated programme management structure, requiring specialist knowledge and experience of applying Programme Management techniques, to ensure service delivery is managed and clear quality and professional standards are defined.

About you
This role requires specialist knowledge and experience across the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Domains, and how they apply to the research, learning & teaching and operational context within the higher education sector.
You will have significant experience of leading strategic, cross-cutting programmes of work, coupled with significant experience of leading consultation and sector engagement programmes. With an expert understanding of project management methodologies, you will have a track record of managing complex projects with strategic influence, with significant impact upon resources.

Key to your success in this role will be your ability to liaise and communicate effectively in a concise and confident manner, particularly to external audiences, with the ability to persuade and influence a range of individuals/groups across organisational boundaries, and translate complex information to non-specialists.

This post is full-time (35 hours per week, Monday- Friday) and open-ended (permanent)

Informal enquiries should be directed via email to Mike King [email protected]

Closing Date: 23:45 on Monday 25th March 2024

As part of Team UofG, you will be a member of a world-changing, inclusive community, which values ambition, excellence, integrity and curiosity.

As a valued member of our team, you can expect:
1 A welcoming and engaging organisational culture, where your talents are developed and nurtured, and success is celebrated and shared.
2 An excellent employment package with generous terms and conditions including 41 days of leave for full time staff, pension, benefits and discount packages.
3 A flexible approach to working.
4 A commitment to support your health and wellbeing.

We believe that we can only reach our full potential through the talents of all. Equality, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of our values.
