The Opportunity
This is a fantastic opportunity for teachers who are looking to further develop in a leadership role, or someone already in a leadership role within a school who is looking to share their extensive knowledge to make a positive impact on the achievements of Essex County Council’s Previously Looked After Children.
Influencing and challenging school leaders and providing subject matter expertise, our Advisors ensure that our children and young people have access to the best educational provision possible, accelerating their progress and attainment thus leading to enhanced life chances.
Delivering high quality training and support for social workers and Designated Teachers in schools and liaising closely with parents/carers and other professionals, you will ensure statutory duties and best practice standards are met. This role will focus on progress; needs identification, attendance, carefully targeted intervention and enrichment provision, which will meet academic, social and emotional needs. You will provide support to schools to develop strategies and plans to raise attainment.
The role requires someone with qualified teacher status, extensive teaching experience in at least 2 key stages ranging from early years to key stage 2 for primary and key stages 3 and 4 for secondary and experience within a school leadership role. You will have a strong understanding of current theory and research relating to the education for children in care, that informs effective practice and the ability to positively challenge school practice where it falls short. You will also have knowledge around suspensions, exclusions and inclusive practice, and experience in liaising with a wide range of professionals. You will feel comfortable supporting and interacting with parents/carers.
This role is also going to lead the strategy for supporting Special Guardianship Order (SGO) Carers whose children have not previously been in care: it will involve developing connections and a strategy across services, with schools and with communities of SGO carers to ensure that carers and professionals can access advice and guidance around promoting educational outcomes for children on SGOs.
