Stonyhurst College is an inclusive, caring environment, which has a long history of supporting pupils from all over the world.
The EAL department offers a comprehensive curriculum delivered by committed and enthusiastic members of staff who have the best interests of their pupils at heart. The Department supports the academic success and pastoral well-being of our international pupils by providing English language tuition for all pupils whose first language is not English. The department offers a range of courses to accommodate the full spectrum of linguistic needs for our international pupils.
In Lower School pupils are tutored for Cambridge English examinations which are recognisable throughout the world such as: PET, FCE and CAE. In Syntax (year 11) many of our pupils enter for IGCSE English as a second language whilst others, whose language skills are sufficiently developed, are entered for IGCSE English Language along with our English native speakers. In Higher Line (sixth form), the EAL department teaches the English Language B course as part of the IB Diploma programme, with most pupils entering for Higher Level.
As our pupils prepare for university, our EAL provision focuses on the IELTs examination in preparation for meeting university entrance requirements.
