Job description

Our exciting, unique client has been an expert in supplying Cimco software and hardware to UK precision engineering companies for the last 41 years.

They work with some outstanding customers including Rolls Royce, BAE, JCB, UTC Aerospace, Moog Aerospace, and many others.

They have an excellent reputation in the machine tool industry and most of their new work comes from recommendations as they are regarded as experts in our field.

Due to the exciting times ahead, our client is looking for a Senior Technician.

WHAT THEY DO

Our client essentially connect machine tools that have an intelligent control system to a Windows network for NC program transfer and capture of the machine’s state.

The network can be wireless or wired and we often install the required access points or network cabling to enable this. NC programs or Ethernet using protocols like Terminal transfer or FTP / network share.

NC program revisions are stored in a SQL database for auditing and revision history purposes. Machine status data is collected through digital IO modules, PLC, Focas, MT-Connect or OPC-UA. This data is stored in the same SQL DB and then displayed using our web server, Excel, Power BI or Crystal Reports via an ODBC or direct database connection.

THE ROLE

The technician will assist with on-site installation in customer’s machine shops and remote support from home or office. Installations can require overnight stay in a hotel and travel around the UK. This candidate would eventually assume overall control of the business so the current MD can retire.

ESSENTIALS

Understanding of Windows networks and basic IP addressing.

Configuring network adapters for different IP / subnet ranges.

Ability to configure a network share and set permissions.

Understanding of Windows credentials and how they are used to connect to a different PC.

Problem solver who doesn’t jump to conclusions with the ability to determine important information from irrelevant.

Personable and able to work with engineers/managers at senior level in large corporations.

DESIRABLE

Experience in the Precision Engineering industry.

Windows active domain user control.

VLAN configuration and ACL lists.

SQL database knowledge and SQL language familiarity/use.

Any Health & Safety experience (RAMS etc.)

NICE TO HAVE

Engineering experience.

CNC machine tool familiarity.

Experience with digital IO modules.

Electronics background.

Visual Studio, C++, or C# experience.

Any other programming experience.
