About the Roles & Team
The Area Finance Team is busy team providing training, financial advice, support and practical assistance to schools throughout Gloucestershire. The team is split into 3 roles: Finance Officer ((FSO)operational), Principal Accounting Advisor and Trainers ((PAA) operational and strategic) and 2 Managers of the team (who manage the team whilst also supporting their own schools at a PAA level).
The role is for a Finance Officer and involves:
Four zero hour’s claim contracts to assist the Area Finance team in supporting schools at a Finance Support Level, when we have staff changes, sickness or an abnormal amount of supply requests from schools.
Finance Support Tasks that you could be asked to do are:
- Working at an operational and level with school finance staff
- Visiting schools throughout Gloucestershire to offer 1 to 1 finance support or via a link from Shire Hall.
- Visiting schools throughout Gloucestershire to undertake finance tasks due to sickness or a vacant position in a school.
- Answering calls on our dedicated helpline – 1 day a week with another member of the team, Principal Accounting Advisor and Trainer

About You
- We are seeking four, self-motivated, dedicated professionals with proven experience in accounting procedures and customer care.
- The successful candidates will have proven financial experience, within a school's finance department, who could offer 4 to 8 hours a week during some of our busy periods.
- Experience of school’s finance & ESS’s - FMS Finance software is a necessity.
- The candidate MUST Hold a full driving licence and have access to a car during all working hours, please DO NOT APPLY if you do not meet this requirement.
About Us
Our team do all they can to support schools with their finance tasks and strategic financial planning, to ensure the financial backup is there to support the education of the children in Gloucestershire. We are a close team that as well as supporting schools support each other in our daily working lives.
- The role is for four zero hour’s claim contracts, which we can call upon, when we have staff changes, sickness, or an abnormal amount of supply requests from schools. We cannot say when this could be required, if at all. The expectation of available time per week would be 4 to 8 hours a week Term time only.
- Holidays pay is paid on any claims as per Gloucestershire County Council policy.
- You will be provided with the ICT equipment to work in the office (Shire Hall) when not out on school visits, for any administration work.
- Mileage costs to schools, can be claimed but the commute distance to and from your home to Shire Hall in Gloucester is deducted first, as per Gloucestershire County Council policy.
