POSITION SUMMARY
The Development Officer - Events is an integral part of the team, responsible for a dynamic and diverse portfolio, supporting signature events and regional community fundraising efforts to advance the mission of "Keeping Families Close." This role will serve as the lead for signature events and primary contact for community fundraising efforts. The Development Officer – Events will work closely with leadership and chapter teams to expand our community and brand presence across our service area, focusing on enhancing our event profile and building and maintaining key relationships. To ensure fair and equitable pay at RMHC-SWO, placement on the salary range will be based on your years of experience, skills and qualifications relevant to the Development Officer – Events.
Hiring salary range: $55,000 to $65,000. RMHC-SWO offers a 4-day workweek schedule for the employees.KEY DELIVERABLES
- Successfully execute signature and third-party events as assigned.
- Ensure events align with RMHC’s mission, vision, and values and adhere to the RMHC process, logo usage guidelines, and fundraising policies.
- Optimize opportunities to elevate the profile of RMHC-SWO through the development, planning, and execution of signature events.
- Meet annually defined fundraising targets.
- Build relationships with donors and key regional stakeholders, elevating program awareness, brand presence, and revenue generation.
- Collaborate with the chapter’s leadership team to establish competitive fundraising targets and execute high-quality events while adhering to budgetary expenditures.
- Develop and maintain event tracking systems to ensure effective promotion, oversight/execution, coordination, stewardship, recognition, and financial reporting of events.
- Identify new opportunities to enhance guest experiences, community relations engagements, and revenue generation.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Donor Engagement/Signature Event Management:
- Ensure quality donor experiences during event attendance.
- Work with chapter staff to develop project plans and timelines to facilitate the planning and execution of events.
- Lead event day logistics and onsite event execution.
- Design and implement event logistics, secure pre-event sponsorships and registrations, lead on-site logistics and post-event follow-up.
- Work collaboratively with the Fund Development and Communications Team to ensure donors and participants are recognized, stewarded, and engaged appropriately.
- Create and maintain online registration systems and an online chapter event calendar.
- Attend and lead event committee meetings, providing support and information where necessary.
Event Management/Community Engagement:
- Build relationships with third-party event leads to ensure they can successfully execute their events, honouring the brand and supporting the mission.
- Attend and speak at community events as required.
- Act as a key ambassador at the RMHC-SWO London location, organizing and coordinating group tours and receipt of gift-in-kind and monetary donations.
- Build relationships with event committee members, event location representatives, and special guests.
- Champion third-party events across the chapter, including promotion, oversight, and coordination of stewardship and recognition.
Communications:
- Provide relevant information to the Associate Director, Community Relations to support RMHC-SWO communication efforts by providing materials for the website, social media posting, newsletters, and other relevant communication materials relating to events.
- Speak on behalf of RMHC-SWO at community events and meetings.
- Work closely with the Community Relations and Communications team to highlight events, partners, and opportunities.
- Develop and provide relevant and timely materials to event committee chairs, chapter staff, and the leadership team as necessary.
- Keep staff, board members, and volunteers appraised of events and communicate with key team members to facilitate the cascading of information across all levels of the organization.
Volunteer Engagement:- Value, recognize, and engage volunteers.
- Lead the Community Ambassador Program and foster relationships with volunteers to build capacity and expand reach and impact.
- Work closely with event and community ambassadors to ensure they are supported and are able to steward donors effectively and facilitate key messaging communications.
- Work closely with the Volunteer Coordinator to ensure adequate event support.
Financial Management:- Monitor and report monthly on signature and third-party event performance and fundraising targets.
- Work in collaboration with the Administrator, Database, and Gift Processing to ensure that events are documented and aligned to ensure data integrity.
- Audit event coding and review reports to ensure accuracy and consistent donor stewardship.
- Run quarterly reports on third-party event revenue to monitor status and alignment with budget/revenue projections.
- Contribute to the development of an annual operating budget.
Events and Recognition:- Create and implement a stewardship program, donor recognition criteria, and acknowledgment strategies for RMHC-SWO.
- ???????Provide leadership to the team that is tasked with annual RMHC signature events, community events and programs, and donor appreciation activities to ensure they align with the chapter's strategic direction, operational plans, and financial goals.
- Foster long-term relationships with donors, ensuring their interests align with the organization's mission and projects.
- Work closely with the leadership team to ensure donors are stewarded and engaged appropriately.
QUALIFICATIONS/ KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
- 5+ years of relevant work experience in nonprofit or event management.
- Post-secondary education in a related field: Fundraising, Nonprofit Management, Event Management, Communications, Public Relations, or relevant work experience.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented.
- Knowledge of project management theory and processes is an asset.
- Excellent communication skills, oral and written, with the ability to adapt messaging to different audiences.
- Skilled in public speaking.
- Experience working with donor software or Raisers Edge and the Blackbaud ecosystem is an asset.
- Demonstrated understanding of fundraising standards and processes (including knowledge of CRA guidelines).
- Canadian Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) designation is considered an asset.
- Commitment to the highest ethical standards and dedication to the organization’s mission and values.
- A commitment to working collaboratively in a team environment with staff, volunteers, families, donors, and the public.
- Demonstrated commitment to building and maintaining long-term relationships with donors.
- Valid driver's license with a healthy driving record and consistent access to a motor vehicle with appropriate auto insurance.
- Available to work variable hours over evenings and weekends, as necessary, throughout the year to attend committee meetings and events, public speaking engagements, and presentations.
- Passion for the mission of RMHC-SWO.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. (approximately the weight of a box of paper).
- Ability to climb stairs.

HOURS OF WORK: Monday – Thursday, 9:00 – 5:30 pm (evenings and weekends as required)
Ability to flex schedule around meetings, speaking engagements, and events.
