Job description
Will be responsible for assessing and implementing the correct method of disinfection, packaging and sterilising of all medical devices that are to be processed in the department, in accordance with the quality standards and current issue of SOP/POP through the department. Senior technicians will have knowledge of technical legislation relating to the HTM guidance. Senior technicians are required to have a full understanding and working knowledge of the operation and parameters attained by automated washer disinfectors and autoclaves and must be able to perform the daily user checks required, troubleshooting and reporting any faults to the team Leader. Responsible for the safe and correct use of automated Washer Disinfectors, Steam Sterilizers and all other plant equipment and machinery. Senior technicians are required to be fully conversant with the Tracking system and must be able to carry out trouble shooting direct with Health Edge. Be responsible for the accurate completion of all necessary documentation concerning the processing of each tray or supplementary medical device, effectively and efficiently, in accordance with the departments current work instructions. This involves the operational use of the surgical instrument tracking and traceability computer system and the Dot Matrix marking system. All systems pertaining to tracking and traceability must never be compromised by technical decision. Technicians must demonstrate patient safety focus at all times. Be responsible for adhering to the internal protocol for dealing with and actioning any non- conformity or deficiency that occurs in the decontamination life cycle, informing the team leader when required. Be responsible for liaising with customers to ensure all queries are dealt with promptly and effectively, promoting excellent customer focus and care. Utilising the correct paperwork and systems which supports the departments invoicing process. Senior Technicians will have the knowledge and experience required to train new staff in all areas of the department to a competent level. Keep areas of work clean and tidy in accordance with departmental housekeeping policy documents and adhere to health and safety legalisation at all times. All employees have a duty to take responsibility for their own health and safety, and that of others who may be affected by their activities. To co-operate with the trust and department by complying with all health and safety systems, COSHH and SALUS control book, informing their line manager of any work situation, or practice which may be considered a risk or a health and safety danger. Ensure that full tracking and traceability of all medical devices is adhered to by the correct use of the Health Edge Tracker system, Patient Trace and ensuring that cycle numbers are correct at all times and undertake the correct actions when problematic. Ensure that all raw materials received into the department undergo the appropriate booking in and quality checking process, reporting any shortfalls immediately to a line manager. Senior technicians to participate in the stock taking of products and individual projects pertaining to the quality management system and the decontamination life cycle. To maintain and demonstrate a quality focused attitude and approach at all times. Determine priorities ensuring all urgent issues are actioned and meet deadlines depending on customer requirements. Responsible to undertake other tasks and duties as required which are commensurate with the nature of the post.
