Chief Officer - Age Friendly Ireland Shared Service Office

Age Friendly Ireland

Location

Ireland | United Kingdom

Job description

Meath County Council is the authority responsible for Local Government in County Meath with its corporate headquarters located at Buvinda House, Navan.

The Council hosts the national Age Friendly Ireland Shared Service Office (AFISSO) on behalf of the local government sector.

Ireland is acknowledged, at UN level, as the first country to have full affiliation across all administrative areas to the WHO Global Programme on Ageing. A critical role in this achievement is that played by the local government sector, with a network of regional and local age friendly programme managers supported by the Age Friendly Ireland Shared Service Office (AFISSO).

The AFISSO brings together, supports and provides technical guidance to the 31 local authority led, multi-agency Age Friendly Programmes. At local level it is developed through cooperation and partnership of older people with government agencies and service providers working side by side. The core funding for the Age Friendly Ireland Shared Service Office is provided by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, the Department of Health and the HSE. In addition to this the AFISSO is funded by Slaintecare to manage the national Healthy Age Friendly Homes Programme.

Meath County Council wishes to recruit a Chief Officer for the Age Friendly Ireland Shared Service Office (analogous to Director of Services) to continue the development of the national shared service office and the support services that it provides to the local Age Friendly Programmes across the country.

The Chief Officer will report directly to the Chief Executive of Meath County Council and is expected to fulfil relevant management responsibilities, overseeing the outward facing institutional relationships of Age Friendly Ireland, as well as, providing strategic direction for the national shared service office in consultation with the National Advisory Group and the Council’s Chief Executive.

Further details on essential requirements and on the role are available in the Candidate Information Booklet.

The Public Appointments Service is committed to a policy of equal opportunity and encourage applications under all nine grounds of the Employment Equality Act.

Closing Date: 3pm Thursday, 14 th March 2024.
