Job description

We are Mantra Learning, the UK’s leading Logistics learning and development organisation. Mantra has supported the skills needs of the logistics sector for over 54 years and is an Ofsted rated grade 2, independent training provider. The Manchester site is well established as the largest specialist logistics training facility in the UK.

Our organisation provides training for people at all levels from supporting individuals to gain work to developing senior managers. We also strive to improve learners’ life prosects by offering programmes such as mental health and wellbeing, digital skills, English and Maths

Through our two key brands of The Job Gym and The National Logistics Academy and utilising several different types of government funding that we have successfully secured, we help thousands of learners each year to gain new skills. This creates a talent pipeline that supports the long-term growth of industry, while also enhancing career prospects and the progression opportunities for our learners.

We work with some of the biggest brands in the country, including Aldi, Wincanton and AO, delivering approximately 400 Apprenticeships, over 2500 HGV Vehicle licences and 1,100 Forklift Truck licences each year.

Role Overview:

The Marketing Manager is a pivotal role in shaping the positioning, growth, and outreach of the organisation.

Overall, the role involves a combination of strategic marketing, branding, market analysis, effective communication and leadership to promote and elevate our educational offerings. This role is a fulltime role based in Middleton. The working hours are 37.5 hours per week (Monday – Friday).

Duties and responsibilities:

Developing marketing strategies: Develop marketing strategies aligned with the business objectives. This will involve understanding the competitive landscape, identifying target demographics (students, professionals, engaging businesses and public sector etc.), and devising plans to attract them.

Brand positioning: Enhance the business’ brand image within our industry sector. Highlight unique selling propositions, strengths, and values that differentiate our programmes from those of our competitors.
Protecting the brands: Ensure that the essences of the brands are maintained at all times.

Learner acquisition: Devise plans to attract potential learners by showcasing the value of the educational programmes.

Digital marketing and outreach: Leverage digital channels (social media, website, online advertising etc) to maximise visibility and engagement. Utilise data analytics to optimise marketing campaigns and outreach efforts.

Partnerships and collaborations: Forge partnerships with industry players, logistics companies, professional bodies, and other educational institutions.

Market research and analysis: Conduct market research to identify emerging trends, industry needs, and potential gaps in the sector. Use this data to refine existing programmes or introduce new ones that meet market demands.

Budget management: Manage marketing budgets effectively, allocating resources to various marketing and communications initiatives based on their potential impact and returns.

Communication and PR: Oversee communication strategies to ensure consistent and effective messaging across all channels. This will involve handling public relations, media relations, and crisis communications if necessary.
Team leadership: Lead and mentor a team of marketing professionals, guiding them in executing marketing plans effectively while fostering a collaborative and innovative working environment.

Support with media and speaking engagements: Collaborate with the SMT to craft media articles, presentations, and thought leadership papers.
Maintenance of online portals: Maintain accurate and compelling company and course listings on diverse online platforms (government and commercial) to boost visibility, credibility, and strategic positioning within the logistics education sector.

Qualifications essential criteria:

A good standard of academic ability with level 2 maths and English as a minimum.
Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (preferably marketing related) or an equivalent qualification.
Essential experience:

Experience of creating marketing strategies and proposing implementation plans.
Marketing management and business development experience.
Experience of preparing marketing plans.

Essential Skills:

Demonstrate good understanding of wider marketing issues whilst still applying attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills at all levels (including company executives and board members).
Customer service skills.
Project management.
Planning, prioritisation, and organisational abilities to handle several projects at once.
Effective management and leadership skills, particularly at a senior level.
Problem solving skills and highly effective time management skills.
