Head of Quality
Location: Falkirk & Larbert

At Alexander Dennis we design, engineer, build and support a range of market leading buses and coaches. Our turnover has tripled in the past ten years and as of May 2019, we are now part of the NFI Group, making us the world’s leading independent bus and coach company, with over 9,000 colleagues working diligently to revolutionise public transportation.
Supporting both our Falkirk and Larbert sites, with an already significant number of product variants and a highly ambitious new product introduction agenda, we are looking for a transformational Head of Quality for this complex and busy area of the business.
Quality and reliability are at the heart of our business and reporting to our Group Quality Director and sitting on the local management team; you will have full autonomy and accountability for the development and execution of a pro-active quality strategy for the Falkirk and Larbert sites.
About you:
- To be successful you will be qualified to degree level in an appropriate field (or equivalent experience), along with a demonstrable track record of success in similar role as defined in this advert.
- Due to the technical nature of the role and our business, your work experience should similarly complex, labour intensive engineering or manufacturing environment where you have made an impact on quality.
- As a qualified Auditor, you will have expert knowledge of quality systems, processes and methodologies from within a regulated environment (ISO 9001, ISO14001 and LEAN, Six Sigma etc.).
- You will have strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability lead both direct and in-direct teams, as well as taking a hands-on approach to all areas of accountability.
- With an excellent working knowledge of problem-solving methodologies and a passion for continuous improvement, you will influence and modify behaviours, driving forward a culture of total quality
- You will be self-motivated, with excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise and re-prioritise in line with changing business needs.
- Finally, you will be highly IT literate, being a competent user of Microsoft Office, as well as business intelligence/Quality Management/ERP systems. We use Business Management System we use is called ‘QPulse’ so knowledge and experience of this system would be beneficial. The system administration and development lies within the Quality function
About your new role:
- First and foremost, you will have full accountability for the quality of products produced at the Falkirk and Larbert site (including outsourced partners), ensuring that standards and specifications are met, and customer expectations surpassed.
- You will also Lead the business regarding BMS awareness and adherence liaising with other Heads of Department to ensure ISO9001:2015 certification is maintained.
- As part of this, you will set the internal and external audit programme for the year ahead, identifying key areas for improvement with ownership being with each of the Heads of the Departments to ensure conformance.
- Using this data and through the careful leadership of your team, you will work with colleagues to put in place robust plans for corrective action. As an active member of the leadership team, you will closely with your peer group to push forward key initiatives and a total quality management mindset.
- You will own the timely and effective root cause analysis and implementation of business solutions leading to customer satisfaction.
- You will develop and own all Quality related KPI’s and metrics, with regular reporting of these in easily digestible ways to senior management, i.e. the creation of a dashboard.
- Lead, manage, mentor and develop a team of quality professionals, creating a fit-for-purpose structure and ways of working that empowers and promotes a total quality approach. As a leader you will develop and maintain a health and safety awareness culture within department, as well as an enjoyable place to work.
- Using your strong stakeholder management and communication skills you will work with colleagues in Reliability and Aftermarket, ensuring that warranty spend is kept to a minimum and claims are correctly adjudicated, resulting in Supplier recovery KPI targets being met / exceeded.
- This is of course a non-exhaustive list and you may be asked to support with other activities as required.
