MAIN PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE JOB The main purpose of this role is to enhance the quality of patient care by cultivating and advancing the clinical competencies of our healthcare staff. In collaboration with the Clinical Quality and Education Lead, the Clinical Skills Facilitator is responsible for supporting the design, delivery, and evaluation of the clinical education and training programs for hospice staff, and associated healthcare professionals. With a focus on enhancing clinical skills, promoting evidence-based practices, and maintaining high standards of care, this role plays a crucial part in ensuring that our hospice teams provide compassionate and expert care to patients and their families at the end of life. DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Principle Accountabilities and Responsibilities Working with the Clinical Quality and Education Lead, and the Education Department, the principal accountabilities will include conducting skill assessments, identifying learning gaps, and developing tailored educational plans to enhance the clinical proficiency of healthcare staff. The successful candidate will contribute to the design and implementation of innovative training initiatives, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards and best practices in hospice care. The role involves providing ongoing mentorship, organising workshops, and facilitating skill-building sessions to empower staff members. By fostering a culture of continuous learning, this role will play a key part in maintaining the hospice's commitment to excellence in patient care while supporting the Clinical Quality and Education Lead in shaping a dynamic and skilled healthcare team dedicated to the unique needs of our hospice community. The post holder will be expected to participate in the induction of new staff and the ongoing training and education of all staff. Support and facilitate both internal and external research projects as required. Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop comprehensive training based on best practices and regulatory requirements. Ensure that education programs align with the organisation's values. Lead hands-on clinical training sessions, workshops, and simulations for hospice clinical staff, including well-being, and the ward support volunteers. Provide guidance and mentorship to staff, focusing on the development of advanced clinical skills and competencies. Implement assessment tools and evaluation processes to measure staff competency and identify areas for improvement. Analyse training outcomes and continuously update educational materials to address learning gaps. Work with the Hospice Education Collaborative to provide education and training to the wider community as identified at Collaborative meetings. Support the Senior Management Team to foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the organisation. Clinical Governance and Audit Initiate and undertake audit projects to inform standards of practice, and instigate and participate in research activities. Promote good practice by sharing audit and research data, both within the organisation and externally. Implement evidence based practice, taking into account the requirements of clinical governance, national targets and national guidelines. Communication Work closely with the interdisciplinary hospice team, and clinical education team to identify educational needs and address challenges related to patient care. Act as a clinical role model and expert, supporting and challenging all staff in the delivery of high standards of care to patients. Attend a Sage and Thyme facilitator course and assist the in-house education team to provide Sage and Thyme training to both internal and external staff. Personal and Professional Development Attend conferences, workshops, and seminars to enhance personal and professional growth. Stay updated with current clinical guidelines, evidence-based practices, and regulatory requirements relevant to hospice care. Stay informed about advances in hospice care and educational techniques. Recognise areas for development of knowledge and skills linked with the role, and work with line manager to develop the scope and depth of the role. Maintain a professional portfolio to ensure the standards for NMC revalidation are met in full. Encourage critical thinking and reflective practice in others. Keep up-to-date in specialist palliative care and be aware of the impact of the national nursing agenda on developments within the Hospice. Support the senior management team to achieve the objectives of Pilgrims Hospices. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES Corporate Governance The post holder must, at all times, act honestly and openly and comply with relevant corporate governance requirements, employment legislation and standards of business conduct. Post holders are expected to be familiar with and comply with all policies and procedures published by Pilgrims Hospices in East Kent.
