Job description

What you will do in your working day

Working as part of our Design Team, you will undertake the following:-

• 3D Cad modelling
• Mechanical design layouts for equipment and piping
• Fabrication drawings, eg baseplates, pipework GA drawings
• Engineering Documentation
• Quoting
• Equipment data sheets and testing procedures

The training you will be getting

Formal training is delivered at HWGTA, located in Hereford (HR4 9SX)

Level 3 comprises of:

Duration approximately 40-45 months.

Year 1.Block release. Typically starts with 3 months at the HWGTA Training Centre. Then 3 months in Company at KGD based at Rotherwas. Then 3 months back at the training centre then 3 months back in Company.

Year 2. Work in Company 4 days a week 08:00-4:30 with 30 minute lunch (unpaid) and 20 minute break (paid). 1 day a week is back at the Training Centre continuing the academic side of the apprenticeship.

Year 3. Continue to work in Company full time, HWGTA Assessors visit to measure/check progress.

Year 4. Continue to work in Company full time, HWGTA Assessors visit to measure/check progress.

At the end of the 4th year, and subject to completing all assignments to the requisite standard, signed off as a qualified Apprentice with a Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing.

You will receive monthly visits from your assigned Learning and Development Specialist, who will set you work, monitor your development and wellbeing, and discuss training sessions. They will also prepare you for your End Point Assessment.

Additional training for functional skills in English and Maths will be undertaken if needed.

There is also a five-day teambuilding residential trip that is held in the spring of each year offered to all apprentices on programme (through HWGTA ).

• Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

• KGD has many opportunities for apprentices to progress within the company into other positions as experience and knowledge is gained. Any role within KGD is possible, many apprentices go on to fulfil management and Supervisor roles.
