Director of Children and Youth Ministry Role
This role assists in the advancement of the mission and vision of Pax Christi Church though these responsibilities:
Key Ministry Responsibilities with Time Budget:
40% Faith Formation (6th-12th Grade)
30% Youth Ministry and Summer Opportunities
20% Director responsibilities for Children and Youth Ministry
Faith Formation
- Catechetical formation of middle and high school students at Pax Christi Catholic Church; including the preparation and celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation
- Manage and prepare materials, resources, and supplies
- Communicate with youth, parents, and catechists
- Ensure recruitment and development of catechists
- Verify compliance with Safe Environment protocols
Youth Ministry
- Guide and lead the parish’s children & youth ministry opportunities beyond faith formation, such as summer camps, service, prayer, and discipleship experiences
- Collaborate on local and diocesan ministry efforts as directed
Director Responsibilities
- Direct the implementation of faith formation and the preparation for and celebration of Sacraments for children and youth (Preschool-12th Grade)
- Evaluate completed programs
- Prepare and oversee an annual budget for children and youth ministries
- Oversee the development of an annual calendar for children and youth ministries that is inline with the overall parish calendar
- Direct and coordinate communication efforts for children and youth ministries
- Incorporate, track, and report the parish and Diocesan Safe Environment Programs for children, youth, and family ministry, such as Circle of Grace and VIRTUS
- Connect children, youth, and families to formation, ministry, and service opportunities at Pax Christ
- Collaborate with Pastoral Team in providing meaningful opportunities for Pax Christi parishioners
Role Expectations on the Pax Christi Staff:
Regularly attend and contribute to:
- Meeting with the Parish Administrator
- Pax Christi team meetings
- Auxiliary parish staff/committee meetings as directed
- Diocesan meetings as directed by Parish Administrator and Pastor
Grow in knowledge, skills or understanding through:
- Continuing education related to role or generally as a staff member
- Spiritual formation opportunities
- Guidance and feedback from other parish leadership and parishioners
- Acceptance and completion of other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Must be an active member of a Roman Catholic parish faith community
- Must teach, adhere to, and strive to live out the values of the Catholic faith
- Bachelor’s degree; preferred areas of study include Religious Studies, Education, Pastoral Ministry, a related field, or be able to demonstrate how previous experience can be substituted for a degree
- 5+ years of experience in children’s, youth, young adult, adult ministry or a related field
- Excellent verbal communication skills, including written forms of communication
- Familiarity with the Microsoft Word and Google Apps suite including: Gmail, Calendar, Drive is preferred
- Familiarity with Flocknote ( ), social media and other new forms of communication is preferred
Working Conditions
Full-time, exempt position will include evening and weekend hours averaging 40 hours per week (note some weeks may require more hours than others based on scheduled activities)
Accountability
The Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministries is accountable to the Parish Administrator.
Annual review with the Pastor and Parish Administrator
Compensation
Salary with benefits based on level of experience and as agreed upon with the pastor and parish administrator
