Job description


An opportunity has arisen to join the HPB/UGI Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) team in the role of Macmillan HPB/UGI Clinical Nurse Specialist within The Northern Care Alliance NHS Group. This is a part time permanent post working 22.5 hours per week.

This is a senior cancer nurse who will provide specialist support to patients with a suspected or confirmed diagnosis of HPB /UGI cancer throughout all stages of their pathway from referral to diagnosis and treatment. Acting as their keyworker the CNS will provide information to support informed decision making including information on appropriate treatment and MDT outcomes.

The ideal candidates will possesses excellent communication skills and have an ability to deal with service users and clinicians over the phone and in person in a polite and compassionate manner. You will liaise with all members of the MDT, to facilitate the teaching of ward staff, patients, families and carers of all aspects of colorectal surgical management. You will also be expected in conjunction with the audit team to record data, compile results and present them to relevant members of the MDT. You must be a dynamic flexible individual with advanced I.T, administrative and organisational skills should ideally have a minimum of two years’ experience in HPB/UGI nursing and have shown a keen interest in developing your clinical skills and knowledge.

You will be based at The Royal Oldham Hospital but you may be required to work on any other the other Northern Care Alliance Sites in order to perform your duties. An ability to work autonomously and to respond quickly to requests is required in addition to the ability to use your own initiative.

This vacancy is open to those who have a current NMC PIN to practice as an Registered Nurse or Midwife in the UK, or those who are currently enrolled on a course which means they expect to receive their full NMC PIN within the next 3 months. Please note an NMC PRN PIN is not a full NMC PIN and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role.
