Job description

- Outside IR35 Job PurposeTechnical mentoring of design capability in EPN, working with design engineers, asset management and delivery to develop and agree engineering solutions and designs to support projects and programmes of work. Shall lead on the development of feasibility and conceptual solutions in response to project mandates, customer offers and acceptances. Working with others across the business to ensure right first-time solutions are developed, which maximise delivery efficiency, by deploying standard solutions, encompassing early contractor involvement on constructability, commissionability and be operationally compliant. The position holder shall have technical authority and be a key influencer of design, delivery, construction and operation teams. The position of Lead Solution Engineer is key in the delivery of engineering solutions, which underpin the successful delivery of the Asset Portfolio Plan and Major Connections projects, which is strategically important in meeting the regulatory outputs at a cost which out performs the regulatory settlement and delivers on the commercial model for connections.Principal Accountabilities: Leading engineering solution strategy to deliver optimum value solutions through application of repeat solutions and designs, technical leadership, and agreeing design delivery strategyTechnical mentoring of designers including Electrical, Civil, Cable, OHL M&E engineers and technicians, ensuring design solutions will comply with standards, are constructable and suitable for the operational constraints.Key interface with construction partners and commissioning teams to ensure deliverable engineering solutions that minimise waste and optimise value throughout the project lifecycleDeveloping design scopes in association with the Delivery, Consents and Design teams, including deliverables, design delivery programme and cost of designAccountable for the selection of integrated engineering solutions which achieve the mandated outputs whilst being rigorously challenged to assure technical requirements are achieved efficiently, which meet the required delivery programmes, quality and budget in compliance with client standards and CDM regulations. and contribute to the out-performance of the regulatory determination or agreed Connection quotation,Will support the development and training requirements of designers, setting and support training plans for internal and seconded staffWhere nominated will undertake role of CDM Principal Designer during feasibility and concept design stages of a scheme.Work with the development manager and project / programme managers and provide inputs and support to progress the schemes / projects to Gate B / Gate C as per the project requirement. Skill Qualifications and Experience: Highly experience in mainstream engineering construction including electrical networks with demonstrable experience of leading multi-disciplinary design coordination processes, construction and commissioning of electrical apparatus.,Experienced in commercial and cost management processesDemonstrable experience of leading and implementing value engineering interventionsSignificant experience of the technical challenges of multi-disciplinary projects in a large capital programme environment (including setting performance targets and appraisals)Proven influencer with ability to shape and lead on technical decisions, setting design strategy and making tactical decisions when necessaryChartered Engineer or equivalent relevant experienceTechnical qualifications – relevant technical degree.Analytical and decision-making skillsHold, NEBOSH Working Safely or equivalent qualification or experienceAn excellent safety ethos with a sound understanding of Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations and their application. Ability to lead and coordinateExcellent written and communication skills with strong interpersonal skills and experience of communicating clearly and confidently at all levels across the organisation.Develop Quality Assurance procedures and company design standards as required and ensure that team adheres to appropriate policies at all times.Proficient in the use of Microsoft desktop applications including Word, Excel, , PowerPoint, P6, ProjectWise, & Alfresco.(training may be provided where required)Where currently holding operational roles – competencies / authorisations, the expectation is to maintain the required authorisations and associated commitments.
