DERBYSHIRE FIRE AND RESCUE
FINANCIAL ACCOUNTANT
Salary Grade: £36,648 - £43,421 Subject to salary review on Jan 25.

As a Financial Accountant within Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Services, your role will be pivotal in ensuring the efficient allocation and management of financial resources to support the organization and the county's goals.

The successful candidate will be responsible for revenue budget monitoring, providing complex Fire Pension Scheme and Local Government Pension Scheme data and analysis, and close down work to include compliance with accounting standards.

Key responsibilities will include:

- Producing financial information as required to support the Head of Accountancy, Strategic Leadership Team, stakeholders, and budget holders.
- Assisting budget holders and advising on budget monitoring and forecasting, responding to queries in connection with payments, commitments, and budgets as appropriate.
- Management and mentoring of an accountancy assistant and oversight of ledger queries as a point of escalation.
- Collaboration with other public sector bodies such as Derbyshire County Council in the sharing and analysis of key financial and performance data to support shared goals.
- Contribution to continuous improvement in processes, systems, and implementation of change to improve service delivery and support to other departments.

The finance team and organisation are invested in promoting personal development and are happy to consider applications from candidates who are currently studying towards formal qualification (CIPFA, CIMA, ACCA).
You will be a qualified or part-qualified accountant with a strong background in financial management, budgeting, and reporting, with some exposure to public sector accounting processes, funding arrangements, and policies.
You will also have an eye for detail, strong analytical skills, be proficient in the use of accountancy software as well as advanced Excel, and be able to demonstrate an ability to build professional relationships through partnership working and collaboration.
