PEGASUS SCHOOL– NEW VACANCY – INITIAL FIXED TERM CONTRACT TO DECEMBER 2024
HEALTH CARE ASSISTANT – 22.5 hours per week, worked over 3 days/52 weeks (0800 to 1600)
£11.44 per hour

About us
Pegasus School is a small independent special school. Currently we have ten residential students and twelve day students aged 8 to 19 years with moderate to severe learning disabilities, autism and associated challenging behaviour. Many of our students also have mental health and therapy needs.
Located within easy reach of Swadlincote, Derbyshire and a short distance from Burton on Trent.
Children and young adults placed at the school have a range and complexity of needs including:
• Autism
• Moderate to severe learning difficulties
• Speech, language and communication difficulties
• Challenging behaviour
The Role
To ensure the consistent and adequate supply of prescribed medications for the young people at Pegasus School.
To support medication administrators with completing scheduled medication rounds.
To ensure that all documentation is correct and up to date.
Undertake assessments of young people to identify physical and mental health needs, and determine the appropriate level of intervention and care management.
Provide professional advice and support to colleagues to ensure the effective health and social care of young people in line with best practice.
Coach, support and train colleagues to develop their skills in line with professional standards and current best practice as appropriate.
Promote an understanding of and develop health and wellbeing services within the school to maximise personal wellbeing and promote independence.
To liaise with and support a variety of internal and external colleagues and partners to promote an integrated approach to meeting our young peoples’ complex requirements. These may include, but not limited to: primary, secondary and tertiary health services, external education providers and therapeutic practitioners.
Do you have?
• Previous healthcare experience.
• SENAD approved medication administration training
• Knowledge how to care for and support others’ physical and mental health medical needs.
• The ability to carry out your duties in challenging circumstances.
Are you?
• Reliable, calm and caring
• Willing to complete mandatory training
• Knowledgeable about the role and understand its rewards and challenges including experience working with complex needs and behaviours that challenge
• A driving licence holder
• A good role model and able to use your initiative
• Someone with excellent organisational skills who has the proven ability to motivate, develop and enthuse staff
