Job overview
We are looking for Health Care Assistants to join our bank team at Mill View Hospital.
Mill View Hospital has 5 wards, Regency (Male acute), Pavilion (Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit) Caburn (Female acute) Meridian (older age acute) and Brunswick (Dementia). We also have a Place of Safety attached to the hospital. There is a dedicated unit coordinator 24 hours a day and senior B7 nurse at night.

Main duties of the job You will be working alongside an established and experienced multi-disciplinary team (MDT) on each ward. This consists of nurses, healthcare assistants, nursing associates, doctors, the occupational therapy team, a psychology, the pharmacy team and art therapists.
You will be doing an incredibly important role, caring for the people we look after, getting to know them and working with them to get better. This may be challenging at times but it will also be interesting, fulfilling, fun and you will learn about treatment plans, medication, nursing interventions and different diagnosis. We would encourage you to do lots of activities on the ward, like table tennis, board games, group activities and lots of one to one conversations with the people who use our services

Both our lead psychologist and Clinical Lead Nurse manager started their journey as a health care assistant a number of years ago here at Mill View.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities - To support registered staff in the clinical management of designated service users in implementing nursing care.
- To actively engage in patient activity.
- To observe, report and record changes in the patient's physical, mental health and behavior.
- To work with the Multi-Disciplinary Team in planning and delivering care.
- To gain working knowledge of legislation and guidance pertaining to mental health and learning disabilities.
- To provide the necessary physical care to patients to help them complete daily living Personal care and daily living activities include; personal hygiene, elimination, diet and fluid intake. clothing and laundering, manual handling, personal environment and maintaining rest and activity.
- To provide therapeutic activities, emotional support and stability to patients to ensure effective engagement whilst maintaining professional boundaries.
- To create and maintain professional supportive relationships with all members of staff, with other professionals and agencies to enhance recovery.
- To undertake required physical observations including blood pressure, temperature, respirations, blood sugars, urinalysis, weight and height and report exceptions appropriately.
- To ensure that all clinical and risk assessments are completed and reviewed in line with Trust policies on data collection and where they are not raising this to a qualified member of staff.
- To work within the legal and professional frameworks relating to consent, capacity, deprivation of liberty and the Mental Health Act.
- To understand the range of interventions available and potential outcomes for service users.
- To communicate effectively with patients, relatives, carers and other members of the in-patient and community teams.
- To establish, maintain and end purposeful therapeutic relationships with patients.
- To adhere to all practice standards implemented by the Trust.
- To act as key worker to admitted clients as designated.
